Oh. Fucking. Shit.

I can only imagine how the orange shitgibbon will make this worse. And what happened to the sleazy Kushner supposedly "fixing" the middle east???

A top general claimed Monday that Iran’s navy has taken full control of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz—a major oil shipping route that Iranian officials have previously threatened to block in retaliation for any hostile U.S. action. The head of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards navy, Gen. Alireza Tangsiri, made the claim, according to the Tasnim news agency, and declared that the U.S. does not belong in the region’s waters. “We can ensure the security of the Persian Gulf and there is no need for the presence of aliens like the U.S. and the countries whose home is not in here,” Tangsiri is quoted as saying by the news service. Relations between Iran and the U.S. have degenerated since President Donald Trump pulled out of a 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers and reimposed economic sanctions that aim to cut off Iran’s oil shipments. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the most senior authority in the Islamic Republic, said last month that he supports the idea that if Iran is not allowed to export oil then no country in the region will be allowed to export oil from the Gulf.

Another step closer to WW3.

Sounds like the significance of the claim isn't quite what is being suggested. No blockade has been announced.

Doing a quick search results in a bunch of Fox News articles. This is hardly the first time plumage was fluffed out in the area.

So, are they ushering 'western' craft out of the Persian Gulf? Including the portions of the Fifth Fleet already there?

I suspect that Saudi Arabia and the other sovereign states of the Gulf might have some opinions on all this.

Well, if they're not stopping other ships from using it, then their "taking control" of the place is about as relevant a statement as my "taking control" of all the brothels in Vegas. The new corporate directive that all the ladies need to have sex with me as part of the company's quality control process isn't one they actually need to follow because my statement is meaningless.

This isn't to say that I don't appreciate President Putin's orders to the Ayatollah to do some saber rattling against the US in order to distract the conversation in America from domestic issues in advance of the midterm elections, but this is still a fairly meaningless statement.

The orange one is looking for an excuse, and if Iran isn't careful they will give him one. I guarantee the walrus hawk is already frothing at the 'stache from this.

Some strategically sunken ships would make the Strait of Hormuz impassable for oil tankers. There is not an easy solution to a problem if Iran becomese operationally obstreperous.

Yeah... 95% of Americans wouldn't even know what that meant Iran was actually doing... forget be able to formulate opinions on it. America would be paralyzed. ;)

Non-story. This has been going on since 2011 iirc. Try googling "iran blocks strait of hormuz" for a full history of Iran's saber-rattling on the matter.
Faux Nooz is trying to push it right now because their Golden Turd has been stinking up the place lately, and this is not about Russia, Cohen, Manafort, Stormy or my favorite: PECKER.

Hours later, nothing on BBC, Jerusalem Post, Times of Israel, CNN, Aljazeera...

2011?

It's been on-again-off-again for a lot longer than that. Remember Iran Air 655? Shot down by mistake when it overflew Iranian speedboats attacking a US cruiser. In 1988.

Really?

Most of what I'm seeing is coming out of Haaretz.

And, yes, it seems to have been going on for some time.

I did eventually find a reference to it on Jpost. The tone of the coverage was that this is very much a routine bit of boasting, and not a new development or crisis at all. The others didn't find it fit to cover.
