Nike’s decision to tap ousted NFL quarterback and activist Colin Kaepernick for the company’s 30th anniversary “Just Do It” campaign, resulted in promised boycotts of the brand and consumers burning their Nike shoes or cutting off the Nike logo in viral photos and videos on social media. It was the latest iteration in the ongoing debates over NFL players kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial injustice, a tactic Kaepernick started two years ago and was allegedly blackballed from the NFL because of it.
This article was originally published at Salon

“Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything,” the ad read, with the words printed across a close up of Kaepernick’s face.

However, despite all the backlash, on Thursday, Nike’s stock closed at an all-time high of $83.47.

“The whole Kaepernick situation was unique,” footwear and apparel analyst, Christopher Svezia for the financial firm Wedbush, tells Salon. “It was controversial, but I think at the end of the day, for their core consumer, it probably drove strength.”

Argumentum ad Wall Street?
Fair enough.

Making money always comes first for the Just Do It, Gordon Gekko type folks.
Kaepernick is getting played - and paid!

It's almost like Nike benefit from racial injustice.
Tell me again, where are their shoes made?

Kaepernick will be remembered well by history.

Those that oppose him will be forgotten by history.

Nobody will look back to Trump's presidency for wisdom. If the nation survives, Trump's insane reign will be forgotten like an awful nightmare.

A free people would worship those that protested against injustice.

A lot of people have protested against police brutality. Colin is winning the battle. Good for him. Good for Nike. Once again Nike demonstrates that they are one of the savviest companies in history. I totally support them. However, the right wingers are winning also in this. This is appealing to their base. And their base votes. They vote better than we do. If you really want some backlash, make your vote count in November, make your vote count in 2020. If not, all this is just pissing against the wind.

That's the worrying part. We need to remember this forever, and make constitutional changes to avoid it happening again.

Constitutional changes against what? The left would be insane to attempt any kind of constitutional change. The country is controlled by the right.

Pointing to evidence that the boycott is having the opposite effect is a logical fallacy?

Please spell out how this argument fails to support the conclusion and explain why.

I'm not disagreeing with phands.

Well played Nike :slowclap:

I kinda feel sorry for the right. Both sides use boycotts to push their agendas. The funny thing is that boycotts can often backfire for the right. Marketing people want people that are younger, urban, disposable income, college educated, cool, slick, socially liberal, trend setter, and etc. These people tend to vote left. Further, it's cool for them to buy products that the right hates.
