I've met a few Bigfoot fans, people who seriously take Big, Brown and Hairy for real. Their devotion is not up for discussion. Sasquatch is around, and if you don't believe me take a journey on youtube. There are videos of people standing out in the wilds having rocks being tossed their way. That's incontrovertible evidence of the beast certainly. Sounds, stories, grainy pics, it's all absolutely convincing.

Is this any different than having a Jesus? Perhaps the only difference is that Bigfoot does not bring miracles and we don't get to live with our Bigfoot friend in the afterlife. But to me it seems like the devotion presently is the same.

Are Bigfoot guys still out there?

I thought they took a hit along with the alien abductees when most everyone on the planet started carrying a high definition camera around everywhere they went.

Kudos to them for sticking to their guns and keeping the dream alive. It can be tough to get a grainy and out of focus picture on an iPhone and I appreciate their effort. We need more of this benign and irrelevant crazy.

Where I worked years back, the janitor had a habit that he would indulge when the weather got warm in May. He'd do his dust-mopping shirtless. This was before most of the staff got to work, but I was usually early. To quote Paul Rogriguez, this guy had hair in places monkeys don't. I wonder if this doesn't account for at least some of the Yeti sightings of the 70s and 80s.

Some potential differences to help you figure out the distinction:

  • Bigfoot is frequently mentioned to have enormous feet. The size of Jesus' feet is not remarked on in any extent document, despite his unclothed feet being a major part of the gospel narrative on several occasions.
  • Bigfoot's vocalization is described as a "eery howl" combined with non descript huffing sounds. Jesus, contrarily, is thought to have spoken reasonably fluent Aramaic, and was clearly understandable to audiences even at a distance.
  • Bigfoot is actually claimed to be an entire species, rather than an individual such as Jesus, so a more apt question might be "Bigfoot or Human"?
  • Jesus plays an important role in the founding of an organized religion, with a complex set of ritual, philosophical, social, and artistic links tying them together, whereas believers in Bigfoot are more of a disparate group with few things in common aside from the one issue that links them.
  • Bigfoot is covered with hair. Jesus only had hair in abundance on top of his head and over his armpit and crotch regions.
  • Bigfoot is said to live in the Pacific Northwest region of North America; Jesus is generally thought to have lived in the Palestine region of the middle east.

But other than that, they're pretty much identical. :)
