I was reading this article about abortion hurdle laws and it made me sad for those women because it really is just another hurdle, not a little deal, a big deal.

I thought of it because I just made an appointment for a colonoscopy for myself and my husband. Our previous butt-doc retired, so we needed a new one. So, I called this other office on the recommendation of a friend. And they want us to come in for a "pre-procedure visit, to go over the details and expectations and then we'll schedule the appointment for the procedure." This is a huge pain in the schedule. Come on, we've each been through this twice before, we know the deal, okay? But no, we have to take off from work, drive out there, make the extra time, and then go back again for the procedure itself. And for us this is much less trouble than for many - and it's still trouble. Makes me want to say, ah, screw it, wait a little longer, but that would be detrimental to our health. This is a frustrating hurdle.

And we aren't on the timetable a pregnant woman is - needing to get that time off (twice) in a hurry before some idiot legislator makes an idiot rule that prohibits me from getting my procedure because it's been 43 days instead of 42 days. We aren't even in the position of not having transportation, or jobs that will fire us.

It just really struck home how awful those come-in-twice rules are. :(

Also - saw this as a comment on an article I was reading today. Loved it.

If I was an American women, I would register my vagina as a CORPORATION at once!
Conservative macho men would not only leave my vagina completely alone, they would give it huge tax breaks and even worship it as a "job creator!"

I think the EPA regulations might be a problem.

Oh, come on. Corporations don't need to worry about pesky little things like regulations.

That's not true! There was a tiny chance that that bank could have been prosecuted for laundering millions of dollars of drug money. Sure, it was a tiny chance, but the mere fact that it was a non-zero number is proof that the rich and large corporations are being persecuted by Big Government! When will we stop punishing people for being successful? [/conservolibertarian]
