Democrats Block Vote on Measure to Support Iranian Protesters

Leader McCarthy's resolution does the following: 1) condemns Iran for killing over 1,000 Iranian citizens who were protesting their government, 2) condemns the Government of Iran for shooting down Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752, 3) condemns the Government of Iran for repeatedly lying to its people and to the world about its responsibility for the downing of Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752, 4) calls on the Government of Iran to refrain from the use of violence, and protect the rights of freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, the leader's office explains.

I do not see anything about this on any MSM sites, but it seems to be true regardless.
Why would they block a resolution condemning the Mullah regime? Just because Trump is against them too? Enemy of my enemy [Trump] is my friend [the Ayatollah]?

Probably because of this.:

Tensions between the U.S. and Iran have been sky high in the past few weeks.

Antagonism is the last thing needed right now.

Just terrible. The only ones protesting Solemani's killing were American Democrats. It's not surprising they wouldn't support the bill.

I wish everyone could understand that we have a President who despises terrorists. I just can't see the leftists perspective on how it's better to keep one of the world's worst terrorists alive. But, I'm open to be proven wrong.

If Trump despises terrorists, how do you explain his willingness to deal with Putin or Kim Jong-un?

Or, according to the article, the bill "3) condemns the Government of Iran for repeatedly lying to its people and to the world about its responsibility for the downing of Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752."

Maybe the Democrats cannot, in good conscience, point fingers at another government for lying, when our President lies about 8 times a day. Imagine the headlines in every other nation of the world, if we take THAT stance unironically.

Is that really the Leftist perspective? Is there any hope of you quoting a leading leftist as saying he's a terrorist AND should have been kept alive? Or even just mourning his death RATHER than complaining about the manner of assassination? The whole 'brought to the brink of war' thing Trump was playing at?
Or the varying justifications he's thrown out, each contradicting one made before?

What does this bill do?

It condemns.

Naughty Iran. Bad Iran. Stop it at once, or we will condemn you again.

The bill, as described in the OP, is a futile waste of time. At best, it might further sour an already bad diplomatic relationship. But more likely, it would achieve between a quarter and three eights of fuck all.

Curse you, Democrats, for not participating in this empty chest-thumping.

Bullshit

Your wrong. First off, Suleimani's replacement is a carbon copy, so taking him out accomplished fuck all except further diminish US credibility. Secondly, you really, really need to look up the definition of unintended consequences. No one gave a fuck about Franz Ferdinand, Patrick Pearse or Mohammad Mosaddegh until they got removed either.

Forget them, what about The Taliban?

You are right about the Saudi's. I am not a fan of them, but all Presidents are in bed with the Saudi's. It's how we get billions of dollars to boost our economy. If we stopped doing that, our economy would suffer and you guys would be complaining about the lack of billions flowing in from the Saudi's.

I will admit it's bad to sell them weapons, but at the same time it's partly how we keep our economy going.

Sort of like how leftists are against pipelines, but at this point in time, there is no better way to transport natural gas than a pipeline. Would you prefer loading up trains and trucks? That would be even worse! You destroy the pipelines, the economy gets even worse. The leftist obsession with trying to stop our country from extracting gas leads to us being dependent on foreign oil from Islamic countries.

So....Trump is against all terrorists, unless he and/or the country needs them for some reason.
Which makes him just like all the other presidents.
Except he likes the Nazis, too. Unlike every other president who at least knows the right words to distance themselves from Nazis...

So, what, exactly, was it that you hoped people would come to understand about Bonespurs? That he thinks there are good people on both sides of the terrorist label?

Keith,

Nazi's despise Israel, as do most leftists. It is one thing they both agree on.

However, Trump does not hate Israel. He signed into law the anti-semitic bill. Nazis are distancing themselves from Trump because they say he's a Jew lover. So, Trump is certainly not trying to gain the Nazi vote.

Than you for admitting you were dead wrong when you said Trump despises terrorists.

I'd ask you what the fuck pipelines have to do with a sham vote allegedly condemning terrorism but I am just a mere mortal unable to comprehend your divine leaps of logic.

Couldn't help but notice you were silent about me pointing out the importance of thinking about consequences of actions, Archer. Did I trigger some self awareness?

You think we've forgotten his fiasco with Charlottesville?

If even the Nazis don't know where he stands on a given issue, that's not exactly a reason for sane people to endorse his random, unqualified ass.

I was using pipelines to illustrate the point that even though it's still not perfect, it's better than not using them. Just like how if we lost the Saudi billions, our economy would suffer.

The Charlottesville thing was almost 3 years ago now. Hard to believe. Time flies.

I am saying that NOW they see Trump is a big supporter of Israel and they don't like it. It is very ironic that Bernie's policy against Israel is what the Nazis would support the most.

Yeah, But i AM old enough to remember his double switchback.
Hard to believe. Time flies.
Any point to this observation?

So, wait.
During the 2016 campaign, when all the Alt-right thought Trump was going to be their champion, and signed on with him, endorsing his racist ass, the not-so-alt-right kept saying that the position of the AR meant nothing, it did not reflect the actual position of the candidate.
NOW, you want to use the position of the AR to define the actual position of the candidate....

And you call the Left hypocritical?

I never said it was the whole right, Keith. The alt-right thought Trump was going to be tough on Israel. Now that they see he is not, they are abandoning him. This does not mean the whole right!!! I am on the right and I support Israel.

Little off topic, but where some of the discussion is going.

It seems strange, but among conservative christians there seems to be plenty who are both anti-semitic, and pro-israel. People who believe all kinds of conspiracy theories about Jews. But they support Israel because they believe that Israel has to reclaim the lands it had in ancient times to bring about the second coming... at which point Jesus will return, and all Jews will either convert or die. Israel is a means to an end for some. Then again, a lot of conservatives seem to have no problem with cognitive dissonance, so holding completely contradictory beliefs are not a stretch for them. Like people who support the klan, but don't think they are racist.
