"Coronavirus and the US" or "We are all going to die!!!!"

It's not the first time superstitious passengers have been caught throwing coins at plane engines.

How in the heck is throwing anything at an engine of an airplane considered a superstition for GOOD luck?!

I suspect it has nothing to do with the engines, it was just that's what he happened to hit. If coins were thrown at another part of the airplane it would be unlikely to be an issue--I rather suspect they do a bit of a FOD walkdown any time passengers are on the tarmac.
No, you have to throw it into engines, it's just not everyone was able to, but some were successful

They throw them INTO THE ENGINES of the planes they are boarding. To bring good luck!

While chewing on Siberian tiger testicles.

It must be satire. Nobody is that silly.
Don't bet on it

From bear testicles and tiger paws to crocodile jaws and snake heads, these are just some of the bizarre animal parts being sold in China's so-called medicine markets

A tiger penis, which is considered to be a potent aphrodisiac, for sale at Qingping market. China's appetite for endangered wildlife and the 2,000-year practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine is the main catalyst behind the world's third-largest illicit trade

A popular saying has it that people in Guangzhou will eat anything with fours legs except a chair, anything that flies except a plane and anything in water except a boat.

The greatest defense of animal rights to date was during the SARS outbreak in 2003 when consumption dropped due to public fears about the risk of contracting SARS from wild animals.

I meant the throwing coins into jet engines story as being satire because nobody could be that silly..... I should have been clearer.

The diet doesn't surprise me at all.

There have been at least four incidents of passengers throwing coins into or towards plane engines since 2017, with the most recent occurring on March 10.

How exactly the jump was made from coins in ponds to coins in aircraft engines is not exactly clear, but what is apparent is that a small percentage of misguided Chinese air travelers (we found zero evidence of this phenomenon occuring in other countries) believe throwing a circular piece of metal into a jet engine will bring good luck. And that, we reckon, is rather silly.

Unbelievable. To say it's 'silly' must be the understatement of the year. 'Moronic' doesn't do it justice....I wonder how lucky they would feel if the engine is damaged, the flight cancelled and the coin thrower is presented with the bill....

It just underscores how clueless and superstitious people can be. How do these people even continue to live normal lives? I personally feel that an act like this qualifies for psychiatric evaluation.

As I understand it outside the developed areas China is essentially third world. A lot of superstition.

So they are saying it's transmissible even if there is no symptoms. if that's true we are fucked.

Many illnesses are transmissible without symptoms. We're not fucked because of that alone (okay, this one is also transmissible from human to human directly, which makes it worse than average, but still).

It doesn't seem virulent enough to cause a major catastrophe if adequate steps are taken, which is - apparently - being done.

Since you can't tell if someone has it, stay away from ALL people! Stay home from work in bed, not with your spouse or anyone else. Watch 100% coverage of CNN and Fox News so you have constant updates of number of deaths. Your only hope to survive is corporate news media. If they start covering the impeachment, switch to the Internet, wild theories only. Don't take risks.

This is going to be worse than the Zika virus!

Here in Seattle the risk of infection is far lower than getting shot in the city. Literally.

If I have a cold or flu I wear a mask around the building if I am coughing and sneezing. Simple courtesy.
