The Washington Post was unable to independently confirm the couple’s identity as of early Monday, at which point a video of the scene on social media had been viewed almost 9 million times. President Trump retweeted it without explanation on Monday morning. The White House later declined to say why he did so.

This was on private property. The "protesters" were trespassing.

According to police, the couple told protesters that they were on trespassing on a private street and needed to leave. Shortly after, the couple grabbed their guns after noticing several armed protesters in the crowd, shouting threats.


"This is all private property. There are no public sidewalks or public streets. We were told that we would be killed, our home burned and our dog killed. We were all alone facing an angry mob," McCloskey told News 4.

But these were "mostly peaceful" threats.

If they were really afraid, coming out to expose oneself is incredibly stupid.

Portland Place is a very high end part of St. Louis - almost all mansions. It is semi-private - the streets are blocked off on a routine basis, but pedestrian traffic is not trespassing.

The two gunslingers are personal injury lawyers, perhaps creating some business advertising for themselves?

In that particular area of Saint Louis, some neighborhoods routinely and on a scheduled basis, block through traffic for some streets, leaving alternate streets open. It reduces automobile traffic but is not meant to prevent pedestrian traffic.
