18 Revelations From a Trove of Trump Tax Records

Anyone remember the big deal right-wingers made of Clinton getting a $300 haircut? Trump spends $6,000 a month on his hair, then takes it off on his taxes.

Russia contacts? Oh, yeah. Never mind.

The only comment from a local "I'm not a Trumpsucker".
Such a surprise.
Thank you for weighing in, Trausti. There are so many trolls about, it's really courageous of you to demonstrate that you're not one of them.

His tax record says nothing of him being a murderer either.. just either a complete failure in business, or a criminal that has stolen hundreds of millions of dollars from the public by not paying taxes. Either way, a poor excuse for a human being, much less a president.

And, his hair still looks like shit. I read the entire NYT article yesterday and then sent it to my neighbor so we could celebrate that the evidence is finally becoming clearer about what an incompetent crook the man has always been, not that most of us didn't already know that.

Will it matter to his base? Nope! Nothing will change their minds. Perhaps a few will be persurad that they've been fooled but not most. The man needs to be in prison.

The Executive Mr. Trump - POLITICO Magazine

I never watched "The Apprentice", so I don't have any direct experience of what the show is like.
The tens of millions of Americans who watched The Apprentice on television have a pretty clear impression of what it’s like to be fired by Donald Trump. He’s seated in a big boardroom at a long table across from the anxious contestants. He’s scowling and stern. He has all the power in the room, and none of the doubt. The verdict drops like an ax. You’re fired.
But, as the article points out, the reality is very different.
This, on the other hand, is what it’s actually like: You, Bernard Goupy, have been the head chef for six months at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida, where you serve a Caesar salad in a fancy bowl made from Parmesan cheese. Then one day, Trump stalks into the kitchen yelling about how one of his guests didn’t like the salad. And he angrily demonstrates the proper way to do it, throwing lettuce and tomatoes in a regular bowl and screaming that this is “how we make a Caesar salad where I come from.”

On TV, it’s hard to talk back to Trump. But in the kitchen at Mar-a-Lago, Goupy can’t resist. “I didn’t know you were the new executive chef,” Goupy tells the boss.

Trump, furious, storms off.

It’s only the next day that Goupy is actually fired—and not by Trump, but by the club’s general manager, who delivers the message that Trump doesn’t want to see Goupy around anymore.

... Rather than magisterial and decisive, Trump the actual boss swings wildly between micromanaging meddler and can’t-be-bothered, broad-brush, big-picture thinker. He is both impulsive and intuitive, for better and for worse. He hires on gut instinct rather than qualifications; he listens to others, but not as much or as often as he listens to himself. He’s loyal—“like, this great loyalty freak,” as he once put it—except when he’s not.

His unpredictability in the boardroom is not a quirk but a hallmark, according to those who’ve worked with him for years. He is on the job around the clock, and expects those on his payroll to be the same way, but also resists a rigid schedule—he is, in other words, an unstructured workaholic. The way he manages his people and properties, too, is a reflection of his abiding conviction in the value of unfettered competition—between his own staffers, between himself and his staffers and vendors and contractors, and ultimately between himself and the rest of the world.

You're right that nothing will affect his base. But this should have a big impact on swing and undecided voters.

I find it hard to believe such people still exist. Trump is one of the easiest people on the planet to make your mind up on, there isn't a lot of nuance in the cunt's actions.

specifically because a large amount of debt makes someone liable to do desperate things - and the higher that amount is the more liable they are to be influenced by a foreign entity.
Shit, i have seen a security clearance denied because of ten unpaid parking tickets. Oh, and two speeding tickets.

If Trump was applying for any actual clearance, rather than his having "you're prez, so we have to tell you everything" access, he'd not only be laughed out of the investigator's office, his example would be added to the annual security training.
"Recently, an applicant to this office reported being a gazillion in debt. But insisted it was no problem because the notes weren't due 'for years and years.'
"As we tried to explain how heavy debt made him vulnerable if foreign actors found out about it, he explained, 'Oh, they won't tell the Russians. I borrowed it FROM the Russians.'
"The NCIS agent in charge beat the individual with a yardstick and chased him out into the street. Then he went to have a lie down in the break room."

His tax records show no illegality or Russia contacts. Just a rich guy who followed the tax code. But the Russia Truthers promised me Putin and hookers. So disappointing. Looks like the Russia money and prostitutes instead went to Hunter Biden.

Russia contacts? Oh, yeah. Never mind.

The forms don't say who he owes that $300 million to. They don't name any of his lenders.

This isn’t hard, folks.

I think Trausti is saying libs WERE harping on Russia! Russia! Russia! But today's fad is Taxes! Taxes! Taxes! and that somehow this lessens the credibility of the claims.

Oh, right. My mistake. Lefties did not harp on Russia, Russia, Russia for three years straight. Good gaslighting Keith.

Russia contacts? Oh, yeah. Never mind.

Well, yes. Look - I know it's difficult to formulate real opinions, and therefore the mental shortcut of simply regurgitating the right-wing privy is easy, but honestly I could go to the source for that.

I'll afford you the illiteracy and willful blindness that's required to ignore this and this and this:

Forget all that.

Let's just think of the effects that this debt would have on someone with a security clearance. One of the primary things that are checked when someone gets access to secure information, whether that's someone who is close to raw credit data, a member of the military getting access to military secrets, or a contractor for the CIA, one of the things that will be reviewed is the person's debt, specifically because a large amount of debt makes someone liable to do desperate things - and the higher that amount is the more liable they are to be influenced by a foreign entity.

Indeed, CBP probably would deny your application for Global Entry if you had debts like Trump does. This is a huge red flag for anyone regardless of past behavior, specifically regardless of behavior like: THE TRUMPS' OWN STATEMENTS SAYING THEY WERE FINANCIALLY OBLIGATED TO RUSSIANS.

Damn. It must be so weird living in a world where you see conspiracies everywhere. Get out of the house, dude.

How is he a failure? He simply reinvests his earnings into hard assets, like real estate. Depreciation is a typical loss. He’s still exponentially more successful than you.

The illegal release of Trump’s taxes just show how ignorant many are about taxes.

How do you know they show no russian contacts or illegality? Is this the same as your usual tactic of pulling it from your hind quarters?

What it does show is either one of two things:

1) He's a terrible businessman and is losing money hand over fist.

or

2) He's an incredible tax cheat and fraudster.

The $79 million dollar refund that the audit is about is because he's claiming losses on the casinos he ran into the ground. The way I heard it explained is that the tax filer can only claim losses if he got nothing in return. Trump got a 5% stake in the companies that took over his casinos. And as we have all seen, Trump and his lawyers are masters at delaying and avoiding legal procedures against them.

I'd venture that few people get into real estate to lose millions of dollars per year. Certainly MGM doesn't largely own Las Vegas to lose money.

So your criticism is that he’s claiming a refund under Obama’s tax code? And he has not profited from his presidency? Oh, dear!!!!!

Right. He made some bad investments. But that’s usual for the risk taking type. At times the rewards are great. At times not at all.

It’s bizarre that Trump having had down years financially is treated as some great revelation. The dude wrote a book about going broke and coming back.
