"Protester" Misconduct Catch All Thread

nm.

I clicked Reply just to find how Elixir got "property damage" in a weird font. It is NOT a font; it's from one of the extra planes of Unicode. :gasp: , namely Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols (0x1D400 - 0x1D7FF). Overcome with curiosity I generated all 1024 characters in that Unicode class.

Almost all the characters displayed nicely in Notepad, OK in the browser Editing Window; some degrade on Preview. And AFTER posting and re-reading they all turn into the garbage symbol. :-(

My own signature uses only BMP characters.

Finally somebody is going to prison for organizing a #BLM riot. Note that this is a federal prosecution, not a local one - local DAs have been largely derelict in their duties prosecuting #BLM and Antifa rioters.

Champaign Man Pleads Guilty to Inciting Riot

DOJ said:
A Champaign, Ill., man, Shamar N. Betts, 20, today pleaded guilty to inciting a riot in Champaign, Ill., that began on May 31 and continued overnight to June 1, 2020. Sentencing has been scheduled on June 14, 2021.

In court today, before U.S. Magistrate Judge Eric I. Long, Betts admitted to his role in inciting the riot that began at Market Place Mall and spread to area businesses and moved to the commercial area of North Prospect Ave.:
On May 31, 2020, at 10:31 a.m., Betts posted a statement to Facebook and attached a flyer of a stock image of a burning vehicle overlaid with a date and time: “RIOT @ MarketPlace Mall, Time: 3.” The flyer listed items to bring including “friends, family, posters, bricks, bookbags, etc.” In a post accompanying the flyer, Betts wrote, in part, “We gotta put Champaign/Urbana on the map - expletive – gone hear and fear us too. SLIDE let’s get busy.”
[...]
During the riot, Betts also used his cell phone to make and post a Facebook Live video. The video depicts Betts carrying multiple items, including numerous pairs of khaki pants with Old Navy tags attached. Betts is heard in the video repeatedly stating, “We out here…” In another video, taken by a bystander, Betts is seen carrying multiple items, including khaki pants, and walking from Old Navy. As Betts walked by the bystander, he stated, “I started this s---.” Betts also used his cell phone during the riot to instigate others to join or to brag about starting the riot including statements such as “I started this,” and “Are you sliding to my riot?”
[...]
Further, Betts admitted that after the riot, he fled to Mississippi where he used his cell phone to conduct internet searches such as, “can police find your location by logging in messenger,” “can police track your facebook,” and “what are charges for starting a riot.”

This is the flyer in question:

He should have gone straight home after that post and not participated in the riot. His chances of being convicted would have decreased and totally vanished if all the jurors are republican.

He should have gone straight home after that post and not participated in the riot.

...or at least joined a right wing terrorist mob, murdered and maimed some cops and trashed the US Capitol.

The moral of the story: DON'T FUCK WITH THE MALL!
(You might cause PROPERTY DAMAGE)

When someone organizes and advertises a riot over ______ (you fill in the cause), it makes me wonder if the cause is simply a riot.

The months long #BLM/Antifa riots of last Summer killed several people, including an 8 year old girl in Atlanta. The rioters also attacked many government buildings, including court houses, post offices and ICE offices.

But to the Left, only one riot matters, even though it lasted a few hours instead of a few months and led to far less damage and deaths than the #BLM rioting last Summer.

And on Friday there was a #BLM riot in New York CIty.

Violent BLM protest in NYC leaves two NYPD cops injured, 11 arrested

NY Post said:
Police arrested 11 people — one who allegedly bit a cop’s leg — when an anti-cop protest turned violent in Manhattan, authorities said Saturday.
About 100 people converged on Midtown for Friday night’s “Defund the Police” demonstration organized by Black Lives Matter, cops said.
[...]
Angel Rivera, 19, of Manhattan, was arrested for kicking one officer in the foot and biting another officer on his thigh during the 9:15 p.m. fracas, the spokeswoman said.
Rivera was charged with two counts of assault on a police officer, two counts of assault, one count of resisting arrest, obstructing governmental justice and unlawful possession of a noxious matter.
At least some of those taken into custody were accused of attacking Daily News photographer Sam Costanza at Sixth Avenue and 54th Street — in the mistaken belief that he was a cop, law-enforcement sources told The Post.
[...]
About a dozen people surrounded the lensman, shoving him and beating him with their fists and other objects, the sources said.

This Angel Rivera has attacked police officers many times before. Why isn't he locked up at Riker's?

But somehow I am sure Elixir will try to justify that one too or try to minimize it because it was not the Capitol.

Of course, had Trump won and a left wing mob had descended on the Capitol (or thrown Molotovs at the White House), he'd be lecturing us how the Capitol riot doesn't matter either.

Shamar Betts seems to me to be a genuine true believer. Just like the firebombers Colinford Mattis and Urooj Rahman.

Is the fix in to let these two walk with a slap on the wrist?
I sure hope not! They deserve at least 5 years in prison.

Lawyers charged with torching NYPD car with Molotov cocktail offered plea deal

These two lawyers cum domestic terrorists torched a NYPD vehicle with a Molotov cocktail and then handed out more of those to other rioters.

Here is a video of one of them, Urooj Rahman, talking to the media praising political valence.

Your own link says the details weren't revealed.

And most cases end in a plea bargain. The fact that any given case was plea-bargained doesn't prove they're getting off light.

Latest two arrested from Capitol insurrection...one was a former cop and one a Republican lawmaker:
https://www.nbcnewyork.com/investig...e-attack-on-capitol-police-officials/2904889/

The cop brought a bulletproof vest and gun. Attacked police with a pipe and gouged a police officer's eyes among other violent misdeeds.

I wasn't sure whether to put this under this thread or the Police Misconduct thread, but here we are.

I am aware of both those things - thank you Cpt. Obvious!
That's why I asked the question about them possibly getting off with a slap on the wrist rather than formulating it as a statement.

The fact that any given case was plea-bargained doesn't prove they're getting off light.
Of course not. But I have no confidence in the Biden DOJ to faithfully prosecute left wing political violence such as the violence as part of the months long #BLM riots last year.
If the plea deal is taken, we shall see what it entailed, but as I say, I have no confidence here.

There's no reason to even suggest that plea bargain = slap on the wrist.
