Tlaib seems to have misunderstood the meaning of 'defund the police', because I was given assurances it did not mean anything like 'defund the police'. Can someone in The Squad correct her please?

Actually, that's not a terrible idea. We could ask all the criminals to lay aside their acts of maleficence. Appeal to their good nature. Make it a win-win for everyone.

If the policing is worse than having no policing then she has a point.
In the US how you feel about that many times depends on your skin tone.
The policing is more harmful and destructive to a minority.

Very easy for white people living in ivory towers with private security to claim that there are no criminals. Spend some time in my old neighborhood and then claim that there is no need for police.

Yep. Despite crazy leftist politicians and race baiters thinking "defunding the police" is what those in the crime ridden neighborhoods want, the truth is, they not only want the police to stay, they want more policing.

Very interesting that you say that, when I live in north Minneapolis right now. I understand that many cities have worse problems with crime, but I've never seen once in my whole life any situation wherein the police actually prevented a crime. Police pick people up after the fact.
That most recent shooting was a 6 minute bike ride from my own front door.
I will gladly claim there is no need for more police in my neighborhood. There is a lot of need for social workers, social assistance, rent control, vocational rehab, banning the box, and increasing school funding for non-security concerns.
and the cops can't figure out why?

Violence is inherent in the
monopoly on violence. Can't really have law enforcement without being able and willing to use violence when necessary. However, US law enforcement is neither "fascist" nor "racist" though.

But it is not. Not by many orders of magnitude.
That does not mean that the feelings of those who feel that police should be abolished are in any way reasonable.
The increase in crime should police be abolished would be far more destructive.
