Since the un-vaccinated are just over 30% of the population, managing to represent 99.2% of COVID deaths is an epic feat of stupidity.
At some point we have to simply prepare for the next variant that is able to evade the defenses of vaccinated people, because apparently even death itself is no match for the stupidity of anti-vaxers; they're going to keep the coronavirus reservoir brimming with possibilities for the foreseeable future. Maybe a variant that kills 98% of its victims will show up before one that evades current vaccines shows up. That would solve the problem in short order.

Totally agree with you. There are a lot of ignorant people on the right who don't understand science. Fine. And some of those got COVID with hardly any symptoms - and don't understand the hubabub. Fine. But what really makes Trump a piece of shit is that he did get COVID. And from various sources, he was desperately sick. And my of his inner circle were very very sick. My fantasy is I wish Trump would get over losing the election. Preach to his followers to get the vaccine and wear masks.When he got the vaccine I wish he let the cameras in to record it. If he done that much Would be different.

There are a lot of younger people, both Black and White who are refusing to be vaccinated for one stupid reason or another. I have friends, both Black and White who have been sharing their frustrations regarding people or family members they know who have believed some of the stupidest conspiracy theories about the vaccine. None of them are Republicans. But yeah. The Republicans win the prize for believing stupid conspiracy theories. I doubt there is any way to convince any of these people that they need to be vaccinated for themselves and for others.

The last time I took a flu shot, it gave me shingles. ( her husband won't take it either because he believes his wife got shingles from a flu vaccine )

When I take a flu shot, it gives me a bad case of the flu, so no way will I take that vaccine.

I'm not going to let anyone put that chip in my arm.

The vaccine was developed too quickly. I'm very suspicious that it will hurt me.

I already had a mild case of COVID. I don't need the vaccine.

I'm not taking the vaccine and if it's so effective, why are you still wearing a mask? ( that was prior to the CDC saying that masks were no longer necessary, although with delta, maybe we should put them back on )

This is so unfair to the medical professionals who are caring for the people who could have prevented getting COVID, if not for their own foolishness.

I'd say that the jury is still out on that one. I read an article about a month ago that said people who had COVID and then were vaccinated are probably the most protected against becoming reinfected with COVID. You do realize that a small percentage of folks have gotten COVID more than once, no? I have a friend who had COVID and as soon as she tested negative, she drove all the way to Atlanta to wait in line to be vaccinated. Considering that the vaccine is readily available all over the US now, to the point where some doses are being wasted, I don't see how giving the vaccine to someone who has had a mild case of COVID is wasteful.

Of course, with new evidence, it could be that the vaccine isn't as necessary if one has already had COVID, but until we are sure of that, I think my friend was smart for going out of her way to get the vaccine. For all I know, her doctor may have encouraged her to be vaccinated. So, while it might not be the worst excuse for not being vaccinated, it's still not a valid excuse considering that one can become reinfected with COVID.

Adding more risk for a sliver of reward? Is this what a bureaucratic state looks like? By that logic, everyone not infected should get three vaccine doses while previously infected get two.

Studies have shown that people who have been infected can benefit significantly from vaccination. It gives them a strong, lasting immunity boost. After receiving the first dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, they have immunity levels comparable to those of uninfected people who have received their second dose.
