Since the un-vaccinated are just over 30% of the population, managing to represent 99.2% of COVID deaths is an epic feat of stupidity.
At some point we have to simply prepare for the next variant that is able to evade the defenses of vaccinated people, because apparently even death itself is no match for the stupidity of anti-vaxers; they're going to keep the coronavirus reservoir brimming with possibilities for the foreseeable future. Maybe a variant that kills 98% of its victims will show up before one that evades current vaccines shows up. That would solve the problem in short order.

More than 99% of recent COVID deaths in US involve unvaccinated people

Last night, Chris Hay's show on MSNBC had a segment on why we didn't quite make 70% vaccinated U.S. adults by July 4. A look at the map gave the answer: the blue states made the goal, and Trump's states are holding us back. The most backward state? Dear ole Missipp -- with a hefty 46% vax rate. That miserable orange son of a bitch continues to cause grievous damage to the country. Had he died of covid, it might have given his faithful a good cautionary tale.
There is no end of the man's malignant stupidity and lack of patriotism. Fuck Trump.
Got my second Moderna shot today -- bustin' loose in 2 weeks.

Totally agree with you. There are a lot of ignorant people on the right who don't understand science. Fine. And some of those got COVID with hardly any symptoms - and don't understand the hubabub. Fine. But what really makes Trump a piece of shit is that he did get COVID. And from various sources, he was desperately sick. And my of his inner circle were very very sick. And yet, he continues to downplay covid, downplay vaccines and masks. He's piece of crap.

True, and any of those millions of little trumps that support him would have done exactly the same thing. Donald really isn't the problem, and it's only the intelligent, rational person in me that allows me to say that. Donald is just another little donald. The problem is all the little donalds. There isn't a solution, short of them suffering harm for their own stupidity.

My fantasy is I wish Trump would get over losing the election. Preach to his followers to get the vaccine and wear masks. When he got the vaccine I wish he let the cameras in to record it. If he done that much Would be different.

While it is mostly Trump supporters who are refusing the vaccine, they aren't the only ones. There are a lot of younger people, both Black and White who are refusing to be vaccinated for one stupid reason or another. I have friends, both Black and White who have been sharing their frustrations regarding people or family members they know who have believed some of the stupidest conspiracy theories about the vaccine. None of them are Republicans. But yeah. The Republicans win the prize for believing stupid conspiracy theories. I doubt there is any way to convince any of these people that they need to be vaccinated for themselves and for others.

Here's some of the reasons I've heard from neighbors etc. who refuse to get the vaccine.

The last time I took a flu shot, it gave me shingles. ( her husband won't take it either because he believes his wife got shingles from a flu vaccine )

When I take a flu shot, it gives me a bad case of the flu, so no way will I take that vaccine.

I'm not going to let anyone put that chip in my arm.

The vaccine was developed too quickly. I'm very suspicious that it will hurt me.

I already had a mild case of COVID. I don't need the vaccine.

I'm not taking the vaccine and if it's so effective, why are you still wearing a mask? ( that was prior to the CDC saying that masks were no longer necessary, although with delta, maybe we should put them back on )

This is so unfair to the medical professionals who are caring for the people who could have prevented getting COVID, if not for their own foolishness.

Did you tell them about the dangers of Dihydrogen Monoxide, and how every person that has gotten shingles had some level of exposure that compound?

When I take a flu shot, it gives me a bad case of the flu, so no way will I take that vaccine.
This is just a lie. I hate it when people lie poorly.

*Takes the phone out of there pocket and smashes it with hammer* There, I saved you from being monitored.

What about that spider on your back?

My fantasy involves the Trump family and a sausage grinder.

Got in the truck with a new employee for a vessel trailering check-out. Young kid. Bachelors in Environmental Science. But from a rural New York family that has a farm, construction business, and runs a scrap yard. His phone connected to the truck's radio and it turns out that he was listening to the Bret Weinstein podcast. I pretended to not know who that was and asked "Who is that?". My new employee is buying into Weinstein's conspiracy theories and misinformation. To me, listening to Weinstein crow about how wrong epidemiologists and medical doctors are is the same to me as listening to a physicist or chemist ranting about evolution. Thing is, youtube's hamfisted attempt to block disinfo is playing into the disnfo agents' hands. "They" wouldn't block it if there wasn't something to it.

A valid reason to not get a vaccine in the past, but not now? Get the fuck over yourself. Imagine wasting a vaccine on a person who does not need it and THEN having that person get a nasty reaction the shot. The multiplier effect from back word of mouth will be very high.

Longitudinal analysis shows durable and broad immune memory after SARS-CoV-2 infection with persisting antibody responses and memory B and T cells

AFAIK, I did not get covid and got the vaccine. If I had gotten it I would not have gotten it unless it was required. Would that have made me a foolish person?

I agree that all the other reasons are bunk though.

Con-artists have been manipulating for millennia. Any attempt to deal with them, they have an answer for. Reminds me of Miss Cleo and once the doors were closing in on the company she worked for, saying that they didn't want you to know the truth.

I'd say that the jury is still out on that one. I read an article about a month ago that said people who had COVID and then were vaccinated are probably the most protected against becoming reinfected with COVID. You do realize that a small percentage of folks have gotten COVID more than once, no? I have a friend who had COVID and as soon as she tested negative, she drove all the way to Atlanta to wait in line to be vaccinated. Considering that the vaccine is readily available all over the US now, to the point where some doses are being wasted, I don't see how giving the vaccine to someone who has had a mild case of COVID is wasteful.

Of course, with new evidence, it could be that the vaccine isn't as necessary if one has already had COVID, but until we are sure of that, I think my friend was smart for going out of her way to get the vaccine. For all I know, her doctor may have encouraged her to be vaccinated. So, while it might not be the worst excuse for not being vaccinated, it's still not a valid excuse considering that one can become reinfected with COVID.

Should an infected person still need to get two doses?

Adding more risk for a sliver of reward? Is this what a bureaucratic state looks like? By that logic, everyone not infected should get three vaccine doses while previously infected get two.

Studies have shown that people who have been infected can benefit significantly from vaccination. It gives them a strong, lasting immunity boost. After receiving the first dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, they have immunity levels comparable to those of uninfected people who have received their second dose.

This is John Hopkins, by the way not a scammer site.

Should an infected person still need to get two doses?

Adding more risk for a sliver of reward?

A really dumb question, unless you can come up with some significant risk that vaccines represent.
Of course a severe allergic reaction to the first dose would be a contraindication for a second dose.
Those are expected to occur in 2-5 people per million. So maybe 1500 people in the entire United States.
We can live that many un-vaccinated people.

So does a person with an allergic reaction after the first dose who was also lab certified infected get some waiver for their rights back or do they have to suck it up and still get that second shot? Never travel to Europe or risk an even nastier reaction?

Why don't you tell Penn Medicine that they are dumb

NEWSFLASH: Nobody HAS to get a vaccine. I wouldn't want it any other way.
People who were previously infected and only got one shot of vaccine do not represent a big problem. Neither do the other 2-5 people per million who experience a severe allergic reaction.
A big problem is that so many people are misinformed and therefore don't want a vaccine. It looks like that might be 300,000 people per million, not 3.
THANKS, TRUMP.

HAS to get a vaccine, no not at gun point, but you are being disingenuous or oblivious if you think their is no coercion of any kind.

If I had a college student with previous covid infection and a severe reaction to the first shot not being allowed back for in person classes even after medical slips, I would get a lawyer.

Boo Hoo. Let me know when that happens. there MIGHT be 1500 people in the entire US who would have a severe reaction to a vaccine. A few of them might be students not allowed back for in-person classes. For the cost of treating a few incremental severe cases of COVID, you could get them ALL lawyers.

Your complaint reminds me of the Republican Voter fraud prevention campaign to prevent something that has never happened.

What about the college can take a person for in person classes with one dose, verified infection and verified antibodies after the first dose caused a nasty reaction? Or does the power differential only go one way? Way to fight the man, Elixir.
