A federal judge in Dallas ruled on Tuesday that the National Rifle Association cannot use bankruptcy to reorganize in gun-friendly Texas, a serious blow to the gun rights group's effort to avoid a lawsuit in New York seeking its dissolution.

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Harlin Hale said the NRA did not file for Chapter 11 in good faith, but instead filed to avoid oversight by New York Attorney General Letitia James and gain an "unfair litigation advantage" over her.

James sued to shut down the NRA in August, accusing it of diverting millions of dollars to fund luxuries for officials including longtime Chief Executive Wayne LaPierre, no-show contracts for associates and other questionable expenses.

Screw those Ruble-laundering, trumpsucking assholes. I hope they are dissolved, even though the Putin mob will just recruit someone else...
At minimum it offers a glimmer of hope that SOME gun control measures could at least get to the Senate floor.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the NRA; the only organisation I know that can donate hundreds of millions of dollars to elected officials, give its employees extravagant mansions and still insist on being described as non profit.

They are eligible to be a non-profit because they are non-political. <<<Figure that one out!>>>

Yeah, non-profit being not political is a joke these days. There used to be value in the NRA but now it's pretty much a lobbying organization.

When was that? I’m 71 years old and they’ve been gun industry shills for as long as I can recall.
It’s not like they have some alternate mission/excuse, a la Ducks Unlimited.

Non-profit does not mean non-political.

Non-profit 501(c)(3) means that they are limited to lobbying for specific causes, but not supposed to endorse specific candidates. A non-profit 501(c)(4) is allowed to do both.

Churches regularly violate this rule, and so did the NRA, but that's how it's supposed to work.

Non-political is a dumb false equivalence. I have worked with (and served on the board of directors) of a 501(c)(3) and we were very political, but had to be very careful about what we said, mostly because we were a pro-education non-profit in a very red state. The strongly right leaning non-profits got a lot of leeway....

Tomato, tomahto. ;)
No....

Rats have no say in the operation of the ship, the choice of cargo, the navigation, the ports entered, hiring of crew, dismissal of officers, etc. They just note that it's no longer a cool place to hang out and depart without a thank you.

These are the Department Heads. They charted the course, directed the setting of the sails, bought the cheap balsa anchors, and drank sherry in the Wardroom. They were part of decisions made that brought them to this strait. They don't want to be the last man on the bridge when the ship goes down.... Unlike the bilge rats that never even saw the wardroom.
