Police Misconduct Catch All Thread

White privilege is why he's not dead. Police could have easily escalated to the point of shooting him. They do it all the time to Black people.

No all people in any profession think and act alike all the time.

I have handled claims that arose because of bad cops, bad lawyers, bad insurance adjusters, bad doctors and bad fellow employees.

Many of the claims I handled in all of the above categories arouse out of simple mistakes.

Bad mistakes made by cops and medical professionals are likely to have severe consequences than mistakes in other professions.

Or maybe not, The Hyatt Regency Hotel Disaster (my hallmark claim) was the result of a mistake.

Not all professions were originally founded for the purpose of controlling "people not like us". If they were, many of those professions have changed VIA policy while our police force kept the untouched privilege of support without scrutiny since conception.

Personally I am happy to know police reform is moving forward across the country. Sheriff Mina (My local Sheriff) understands the call for defunding police is not a good nor welcome idea while also understanding that police reform is needed and has gained ground in his efforts to do so. I respect & appreciate that. What I don't appreciate are the naysayers that rather talk about how terrible the defunding idea is (which I agree with it being terrible) but make no mention about reforms.

I love my Sheriff and the whole department. Also the police Chief, if not all his recruits.
I wish policing was a much higher paying, more desirable job.

With a more humane and intelligent approach to police training, with the stats and awareness of the fear mongering that encases routine training for so many LEDs around the country.

There are good cops and bad cops just like there are good people and bad people.
I've posted good cop stories several times.
We MUST ALWAYS acknowledge the good ones but the blue lives matter crowd will not ever acknowledge the corruption.
My employer made money off the bad cops bad lawyers, bad doctors, etc.
I'm not sure what that means exactly or how it bears on my post. Maybe you can clarify.

Meanwhile, "good" cops rarely have the safety to speak out about what they see every day. And all it takes is one time doing something unethical, some small thing, and get away with it, and then the rotten apples have started the good ones on the rotting path. Then they're complicit, making even less inclined to blow the whistle. Good cops cannot speak out or they face getting fired or worse. "Blue lives matter" means "Protect the corrupt in law enforcement! Do not expect more from police than animal brain violence and escalating everything to animal brain violence if it isn't already!"

Hold power accountable, and value the very idea of holding power accountable, and encourage others to do so. If we all made it a fundamental principle of our moral and ethical questioning to hold power accountable, and hell, the ability to recognize who has power and who doesn't in any given situation, we'd have little or not corruption.

Promote education and critical thinking, allowing citizens to better protect ourselves against corrupt powers manipulating us to look at other shiny things or even support them in their corruption. Encourage self reflection to deal with those prejudices and biases that influence our actions.

Etc.

Seen elsewhere.

A police substation in Los Angeles was out of operation earlier this week, and a notice posted on the inside of the door falsely claimed the closure was a consequence of "defunding".

In reality, in Los Angeles "defund the police" was never more than a slogan chanted by protesters a few times. The city's police department budget has in fact only increased since 2020, and a further increase of 12% is slated for a city council vote by this summer.

The proclamation by LAPD middle-management that "defunding" was responsible for the closure is the result of another "Big Lie"-type right-wing propaganda campaign that alleges widespread defunding of police departments across the country has led to reductions in police effectiveness and rising crime rates. The truth is that only a handful of municipalities actually reduced their budgets in response to Black Lives Matter protests. Most places which put the question on the agenda or on a ballot ended up not reducing their police budgets.

Big, fat, fucking lying liars gonna lie. "Look what you made us do. It's your fault. Look what happens when you question authority," said every abuser in history.

I realize that the police shoot more Black men statistically, compared to White men or women, but I did want to add a link about a police officer in rural PA who shot and killed 4 White people. A close Black friend of mine and I discuss politics and race relations a few times a week and she never even knew that White people are also victims of police misconduct, so while I'm sure that all of you do know that, I'm going to try and "gift" the article about this officer, who was also the officer of the year at one time. It has a lot of details, so read the link if you want to learn more. All of the victims suffered from either mental illness or substance abuse issues. Family members had called the police for help as they were worried about suicide attempts. Sound familiar?
