Snowflakes in action: the actual reality of "snowflakes" in the world and the consequences

What is under discussion now is a program that is designed to direct aid to those businesses which can demonstrate economic loss due to COVID-19.

Heh, Covid didn’t impact White small businesses at all. Not. At. All.
There is no dispute, as far as I know, that virtually all small businesses have been adversely affected by COVID-19.

So why discriminate on race?
Why should those who have always been back of the line not get a chance to be first of the line?

White male business owners are much more likely to have established credit and to have assets that help their loan applications compared with non-white and female business owners. They have always had easier access to loans and more favorable Liam rates and conditioned compared with matched Liam applicants who were poc or female.

This is one instance when being white and male does not automatically put you in the front of the line and you’re having a melt down.

??? How do you know that any one person has been put to the back of the line because of their race? Everyone has unique life experiences. Why punish someone because of the color of their skin? (TomC’s anecdote above is worth a comment.)

It’s been US policy to punish people because of the color of their skins since before the US Constitution was written.

Of course, Barack Obama was elected POTUS and there’s Oprah Winfrey and he’ll, let’s throw in Clarence Thomas. So what? There’s no more discrimination against black people? Against Native Americans? Against Hispanic or Asian people?

You really think everything you have is totally because you, personally earned it more than the guy next to you? That you were never given any benefit of doubt or any benefit because of the color of your skin?

My wife works for a white male owned business. His $150,000 covid relief loan was forgiven with almost no effort on his part.
Another guy on the NAACP board with me was a black guy. He became a multimillionaire because he was black. His construction business could bid 10% higher on million dollar jobs because his was the only black owned construction company bidding. He could pocket $100K on every million dollar job. Which he got as fast as he could bid. Because his was the only black owned construction firm licensed to put up multistory frames and pour concrete for highways in the golden years of Affirmative Action plans. From huge corporations to the government, black owned businesses could write their own ticket.
Tom
Wow.

So that settles it. The only racism in this country is against white men.

You really think everything you have is totally because you, personally earned it more than the guy next to you? That you were never given any benefit of doubt or any benefit because of the color of your skin?

Everyone has different life experiences. My old man was a foster kid. Inheritance? Ha. But there’s a word for making judgments about people based on skin color. What’s that word?

Why do you think you're being "punished"?

If you’re denied a government benefit solely because of your skin color, you’re being punished for your skin color.

Not everyone is like you, only comfortable with an entrenched underclass.

Eh? I don’t think anyone, anyone, should be treated differently by government because of skin color or ancestry. That this could possibly be a controversial view is just soul crushing.
Well, that view literally precludes governmental compensatory action whatsoever.
No, it does not.

First, governments compensate for things other than having discriminated by sex or race.

Second, people get compensation for discrimination by the fact of the discrimination, not the sex or race of the person.

So can we agree that government should never condition benefits on race? Surely you’ve got no problem with that?

Everyone has different life experiences. My old man was a foster kid. Inheritance? Ha. But there’s a word for making judgments about people based on skin color. What’s that word?
It’s written in the mirror.

My parents grew up poor during the Great Depression, each with one parent who was ill to the point of disability until they died, by coincidence, when my parents were 20 years old. My grandmother supported her 4 children and disabled husband scrubbing floors in the VA hospital where her husband, my grandfather died. My dad’s first job on the farm was riding on the horse drawn plow to act as a weight and to move stones out of the way if the plow. For a time he was sent to live with relatives until he decided to walk the 40 miles home by himself. In December. I’m pretty sure he never had a Christmas present until after he was married, aside from an orange or tangerine and some nuts He took great pride in giving us a nice Christmas. remember when both sets of grandparents got indoor plumbing and I remember when we didn’t have indoor plumbing.

Inheritance? Cry me a river. We all know I’m not that smart but even I figured out in first grade that I was treated better than the black children in my classroom.

I did not grow up in the south.

So you and I and a majority of the white population of our generation grew up with parents who grew up in poverty and a bunch of us experienced poverty in our own lives.

No matter what disadvantages you and I or our parents and grandparents experienced, we have white skin. I did not have white men following me home making obscene remarks to me like my friend did. I was not followed around stores like I was a thief. I was not turned away from anywhere because of my skin color. I was assumed to have earned my spot in most places by my own accomplishments, although sometimes someone insinuated that I only got in because I was a girl. I know I had it easy. I know I still have it easy. For whatever disadvantage I had in terms of money, I was born with white skin and at least I’m smart enough to know that helped a lot.

Wow.

So that settles it. The only racism in this country is against white men.
The only government-orchestrated discrimination that is currently or recently proposed has been against white people and white men in particular, yes, like prioritising non-white non-men in the COVID small business relief.

Meanwhile, those of us not demented on using government resources to discriminate based on race and sex probably think a male 25 year old cafe owner whose business was devastated by COVID deserves equal consideration to the female 25 year old cafe owner whose business was devastated by COVID.

Your empathy obviously varies.

No longer being first in line for every and any benefit does not constitute being discriminated against. It’s not a punishment to stand shoulder to shoulder with brown people no matter how much you’ve been told you are better than they are.

You are you. You are not all White people. Telling a White child that she should get used unequal treatment because you think you had advantages is ridiculous.

Really what was your point? Someone you know made it big under a system that favored them because of their skin color?

Everybody I know who made it big got there in large part because of their skin color.

FFS, the biggest scholarship I got was through my father’s employer. They threw a luncheon for all of us. Not one single not white face in the room.

You truly are delusional.

No one is talking about treating any children unequally. Except you seem to think that treating persons of color like they are equal to white people is harming little white girls.

No one is being denied a giver me t benefit because they are white. The program being discussed does not exclude white men.

Good point. That program said White guys gotta wait until their betters get the money and hope that there’s anything left. Just because of their skin color.
