Dude, I'm just messing with ya a little. I like Pink Floyd too, and I don't begrudge them for being handsomely rewarded for their talent and hard work.

I will always have a place of reverence in my heart for PF. In 1967 a friend returned from Europe with their first album, which blew my mind. A year or two later they played the old Fillmore, and THAT blew my mind. In1980 I was building my recording studio, and the engineer who did all the hard stuff, turned up a Stevens 821B 24 track 2” deck, newly refurbished by Stevens after recording The Wall in England and being returned to LA where it was used in the final mixdown.
An incredible machine for its day, and I LOVED the connection.
But … $400,000,000? Not even half of one measly billion? While the fucking apricot manufactures tens of billions of paper wealth just by promising corrupt favors if he can seize power?

You never I presume Pink Floyd has skilled lawyers that got them about the best deal possible. Besides, you get to a point where the excess money is sorta meaningless don't you? I wouldn't know what do if I had a measly $10 million. I haven't been following the band members lately, but aren't they sorta basic, low key, humble guys? I mean, we're not talking MC Hammer style spenders, here.
I like the story about your mixer. Do you still have it? I bet you could get a pretty penny for it, if you wanted.

It becomes a game. All their friends have billions, and they only have hundreds of millions? They stay up late trying to figure out how to gain parity with their billionaire pals so they can look down on minor multimillionaires and tell them “I was there once”.
Neither would I. For someone like me the old saw “mo money mo problems” is very true. I’d promptly give away 8+ million. No way in hell am I ever going to need more than 2m even if I try to waste it. My tastes do not run to the extravagant.
I could go out today and buy an expensive car. But I don’t appreciate expensive cars unless someone else is going to take care of them. Yeah, I like to drive ‘em but not as a habit. Just parking a Lambo is an anxiety-inducing bad experience.
I could have a nice boat, but why? I know plenty of people who have nice boats and every one of them spends hours doing shit for their nice boat that I don’t enjoy doing.
Personal Net Worth is a goal unto itself for every very rich person I ever met. Lavish possessions are signals to other very rich people that they’re “one of them”
If I was “one of them” it would have to be by inheritance/birthright because I lack the interest and motivation to ever become “one of them” through my own effort and don’t appreciate “nice things” enough to care for them. But if I was rich enough - I’ve said it before - I wouldn’t own anything, I’d just rent whatever I wanted to use and not worry about whatever it was.

It (the Stephens821b) was the tapedeck. And no, I sold it ca 1990. What a piece of tech! It was a revolutionary design, with voltage controlled motors in the hubs that were made for the lunar landers. Voltage was varied by the millisecond according to an optical reader that was located under the capstan. Thing was so quiet - the Ampex half inch 4-track mix down machine sounded like a dump truck next to it.
Not shown for some reason: the mu metal shields projecting the exposed tape from any emf in the vicinity.

Sheila E. Tiny Desk Concert on NPR.
I had a VHS of a Sheila E. concert back when she was a Prince protege' in the 80s. He played up her looks and sexuality, but her talent was (and still is) amazing.
Also, the "tiny" desk isn't so tiny now.

The surgeons were blasting this back in August when I went under for a minor procedure. They said "do you know this song? Phil Collins!" And I was like "and Phillip Bailey!" "Who?" "From Earth, Wind, and Fire!" Then they put the mask on me and the last thing I remember was saying "so, is this the part where you tell me I shouldn't be making any plans for the next few hours?"

Yumi Matsutoya (before that Yumi Arai) has a bit of an odd voice, but she is stunning with her songwriting abilities. A few of her songs are in Studio Ghibli anime.

Love and Rockets. Was really into this band in the late 80s. Even saw them live at the Fox Theater in Detroit. Amazing show. Enhanced by rather a lot of herb that is currently a lot less illegal now.
Pretty sure the band enjoyed it often as well.
