A 20 km deep hole in 25 days by vaporizing rock using a Gyrotron. Work from MIT’s Plasma Science and Fusion Center is being commercialized by a company called Quaise Energy. Quaise plans to be drawing energy from their first pilot well by 2026. If this works, any existing coal or gas power turbine can be retrofitted and turned into a clean geothermal power plant.
