Climate Change(d)?

Nepal has an average elevation of 10,000 feet, so they aren't too concerned about sea level rise. They have a bigger problem with glaciers that have held up mountain sides for tens of thousands or years suddenly letting go, bringing the mountain to a lower elevation.

Out of curiosity I checked Everest.

Yes, snow and ice on Mount Everest are melting and thinning due to climate change. Why and How It is MeltingRising Temperatures: Global warming has driven up temperatures in the Himalayas, causing glaciers and snowpacks at extreme altitudes to lose mass.Sublimation: At very high elevations, strong sunlight and dry air can also cause snow and ice to turn directly into water vapor without melting into liquid first, a process called sublimation. Both melting and sublimation are shrinking the mountain's ice.Rapid Glacier Loss: Research shows that glaciers near the summit—such as the South Col Glacier—have lost decades of accumulation in a very short time, thinning by tens of meters.Real-World ImpactsExposed Corpses and Gear: As snow cover thins in the "death zone," the bodies of climbers who died decades ago, along with old expedition trash, are increasingly exposed.Increased Climbing Dangers: Melting ice and faster-moving glaciers destabilize routes like the Khumbu Icefall, causing more frequent avalanches and treacherous climbing conditions.Water Security Risks: The rapid loss of Himalayan snow and ice threatens long-term meltwater supplies for over a billion people living downstream.

Yes, global warming is significantly altering Himalayan monsoons by making rainfall more erratic, intense, and unpredictable.Key Impacts on the MonsoonExtreme Intensity: Warmer air holds more moisture, leading to heavier and more violent bursts of monsoon rain rather than steady showers.Erratic Shifts: Climate change alters regional pressure systems, causing unpredictable dry spells mixed with sudden deluges. Some areas face up to a 20% decline in rain, while others see massive increases.Disaster Risks: Intense monsoon downpours combine with rapidly melting glaciers to trigger severe flash floods, mudslides, and landslides across the Himalayas.

Unpredictable monsoons affect farming.

The future for southern Cal dies not look good.

True. But not because of weather.
The rapid climate change we se is created by human air pour tin which traps heat like a blanket raising ocean temperature.

Rapid climate change we see?

Only in your imagination.

Even scoldilocks Greta has moved on fella.

Sublimation is an interesting thing to witness. Those who live in Northern Locations know this. Ice disappears in cold dry weather.
Water jumps from ice to vapor.

Back in the 80s I was up on Mt Hood a few times. Never summited but went up to Crater Rock.

Got caught in a white out on a clear cool day.

I always carried a compass. If you follow the glacier fall line in a white out you go over a cliff.

Weather is not climate change.

Add that to your list (y)

So, what is the relationship between weather and climate?

Rolling your eyes doesn't explain why you use local weather conditions in Santa Monica to deny human activity as a factor in global climate change.

I explained this a long time ago, pretty sure you know this. (y)

What human activity is having an effect on climate change? What caused climate change when there was no human activity? You do know that climate change has always happened, right?

What human activity is having an effect on climate change?
Burning of fossil fuels, thereby increasing the carbon dioxide level in the atmosphere, which in turn reduces the re-radiation of heat from Earth into space.
What caused climate change when there was no human activity?
A variety of things; Solar cycles; Weathering of rocks which removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere; Burning of coal or gas as it is exposed to volcanic and/or geological processes; Laying down of organic sediments that formed coal and gas deposits; Changes in Earth's orbit...

You do know that climate change has always happened, right?
Yup.

You do know that it has never happened this fast without disastrous consequences for the biosphere (of which we are an inseperable part), right?

You do know that human causes are by FAR the largest current contributor to climate change, right?

You do know that literally nobody imagines that human causes are the ONLY contributor to climate change, right?

You do know what the definition of a strawman fallacy is, right?

Willful ignorance is bliss.

Is any part of what I posted not clear to you? El Nono La Nina are natural climate cycles diriven by small ocean temperature changes. Do you understand?

Ar pollution acts like a banquet trapping heat raising ocean tetrameters.

Put a meter across battery and you measure a potential energy difference in volts. Measure the temperature diffidence breeze water and air it is a penitential energy difference in degrees.

Both conditions are energy storage that can do work. A battery can light an LE., Ocean air temperature differences powers storms.

If you think we are not observing climate change in real time you must not be watching global reportage.

Or American news.

Greta was a media created phenomena, long past. She was a kid at the time. No longer in the media.

She has not given up or gone away.

Greta Thunberg is a Swedish environmental activist born in 2003 who sparked a massive global youth movement demanding urgent political action on climate change. She gained international fame in 2018 at age 15 by staging solitary school strikes outside the Swedish parliament.

Greta Thunberg continues her activism today by combining climate justice work with international human rights and pro-Palestinian demonstrations.

I do think the over zealous activists don't have much of a real impact.

By now you should know that there is both natural climate change and a more recent input, human activity carried out on a planet wide industrial scale.

I think they generally do more harm than good. They give the idiots a clown to point to, and say "Your spokesmen are clowns, therefore your concerns are trivial".

This is, of course, fallacious. But it nevertheless harms our ability to communicate the seriousness of the issue.

If you think we are not observing climate change in real time you must not be watching global reportage.

All I read on this thread are gripes about the weather and blaming it on “climate change”.
Rinse and repeat since the thread was started five years ago.

Sure, Jan. 🙄

Asked and answered ad nauseam.

Put simply. air pollution acts like a blanket tapping heat. It blocks thermal radiation into space.

Do you undershorts? It was first called the greenhouse efefct in the 1800s. That is why the air pollutants ants are called greenhouse gases.

We recieve radiation and most of it is normally re radiated back into space. Greenhouse gases block radiation.

Unassailable science.

Yes, greenhouse gases absorb and re-emit heat radiation coming from the Earth's surface, preventing a large portion of it from escaping directly into space.

That's not an argument.

A numbskull is a mild insult used to describe a dull, foolish, or stupid person.

A dense person is someone who is slow to understand, misses obvious hints, or struggles to grasp simple ideas.

the word "Dummkopf," which is a German insult that translates to "blockhead," "idiot," or "dumb head."

A blockhead is an informal, somewhat dated insulting term for a stupid or foolish person.

Why don't we just post actual information provided by actual climate scientists who know what they are doing and take this issue seriously instead of arguing with someone who doesn't have a clue about climate science and seems to enjoy trying to annoy others.

Just ignore foolish comments and stop trying to convince people who obviously either don't want to know the truth or are too ignorant to understand the truth.

I'm old so I might get out of here before thing get much worse, but I weep for the future of my grandkids and their generation as we simply aren't doing much to give them a better future. Change is hard. Humans don't like having to change old habits, especially those who enjoy the luxuries and comforts developed in the past 100 or so years, so sadly, I think we've probably fucked up our habitat beyond repair and are sadly destroying the habitats of so many other animals as well.

Never at this rate of change. But you go ahead and keep denying the obvious.

TSwizzle probably represents the majority of us humans. Thinking objectively and scientifically is the exception not the norm.

Politicians with degrees from top schools are climate deniers.

Plenty of factual information has been posted. Preaching to the choir.

People like TSwizzle do not have the capacity to reason through simple explanations. Some are elected decision makers in Congress.

I doubt anything can change the trajectory we are on.

Chia became an industrial power. Africa is tying to industrialize and develop competitive economies. The economic inertia is too high to overcome.

Like you I will not be around to see the worse of it.

Here inn Seattle a major concern is how the new Seahawks owner will run the team, and whether the team will be moved.

The Washington wildfires news cycle has passed.

It really is a religion for you lot. An end of times cult. You have an unshakable belief in the “climate crisis” despite zero evidence for it.

Al Gore is not a scientist.

Add that to the list. (y)
