Yet another war, this time with Iran

And as Trump thinks he is the only person on Earth who knows how to escalate a situation, the Houthis are complicating things and widening the Iran "War" theater into the Red Sea.

As I was saying at the time, it was a big mistake for Obama to abandon the fight against the Houthis and allow them to conquer vast swaths of Yemen for their masters in Tehran.

The majority of US bases in the area have been destroyed by Iranian attacks. The troops that manned those bases have been pushed back and dispersed. The US no longer has the means to defend Gulf states from attacks by drones and missiles. Naval forces have also been repositioned outside of Iran's kill zone. We are at a standoff, and there is no sign of an end in sight.
That's overstating it. But we need to drop all these half measures, and hit all known IRGC targets hard. Shock and Awe II.
Putin, Xi, Kim could not have asked for a better US president.
True. Trump is way too timid, and believes a deal can be made with these apocalypticist theocrats.

As Putin and now Trump have ably demonstrated, a respected and even feared military machine is much more powerful in international relations if you don't actually use it.

I suspect Xi is canny enough to have learned this, or more likely, that he already knew it. Certainly I hope that this is the case.

LOL, like you think Trump has been holding back. If they could achieve anything by this "strategy", they would have won already.

Killing the Iranian leadership makes Iran more dangerous, and more radical. They designed the regime specifically with that objective, and it has worked.

You are suggesting that the best option is to lop even more heads off the hydra.

Or that a good strategy against a porcupine is to try kicking its ass again.

Are you really so steeped in American exceptionalism that you can't see that you have lost?

Not "are losing", nor "could lose"; You have lost. The only way to minimise your pain now is to stop trying to win. Winning was never an achievable goal to begin with.

Every bomb and missile US forces expend in Iran is weakening the US, and at best doing nothing to Iran (and far more likely, strengthening the worst elements of the regime there).

When a wasp lands on his testicles, a wise man realises that violence is not always a viable solution to his problems.

I believe all militray targets have been hit. Drone manufacturing and launch areas areas can be anywhere

What is left is civilian infrastructure.

Trump made a horrendous blunder, he thought he newline it all. The principle4 of asymmetric warfare has been around for some time.

In the run up to GWB's invasion of Iraq General Shinseki complained he did oit have enough troops for a post war occupation. we got fired by Rumsfeld.

We all know how that went. Bush's infamous declaration that the fighting was over.

We do';t seem to be learn ing raw military power does not equate to security.

Trump, Vance, and Hegseth are stuck in pre WWII thinking. The threat of military power can bend the w0rld. We have the badest army in the world so you better do what we want, or else. Trump threatened to bomb Oman.

They are more like Moe, Larry, and Curly.

They are more like Moe, Larry, and Curly.

That's about them.

Trump is a complete fuckup. This war is a total global economy threatening fuckup. And the Global Strategic Reserves are about to run dry. That's when gas goes up to $8 a gallon, home heating oil $12 a gallon. Possible gas lines like in the 1970's.

But the Republican idiots will not abandon Trump and his administration and all of his enablers in Congress because of....Trans.

Dude, Houthis defeated Obama, when he came to rescue MBS who thought a little war with Yemen is what he needed for the image.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

This is what you read from this? Trump was told by Netanyahu it was a cake walk. So he bit. And now we are stuck. Iran is spending 1/100th what we are and choking off about 80% of traffic along the Strait of Hormuz. The US has no cards. Sure, maybe we could bomb Iran some more. But where?! We ran out of targets a while ago that justified the cost of the munitions used.

I'm waiting for some world leader to stand up and say, No Trump. You did this. This entire mess is all your fault. No one made you attack anyone.
It's fucking déjà vu all over again.

I totally disagree. Obama was very clear that he wanted to pivot away from the ME. Those countries do not pose either a military threat to us. While we are so focused on the ME and depleting our military arms, Russia is threatening in Europe and China in Asia. China and Russia are our threats, not Houtiland; not Iran. I think that there is a very good chance that Russia will attack Nato an/or China will attack Taiwan while we are so distracted.

Did you learn anything from Afghanistan? Or Vietnam? Or even Iraq?

BTW, from the reporting I read (mainly the Economist), the Houthis take armaments but rarely orders from Iran.

This is so important.
Of all Trump and the Teaparty idiocy, trashing the path towards peace with Iran is about the stupidest and most destructive.

Imagine what things could be like if we were all ten years down the road to peace and prosperity, instead of where we are.

I think the u written agreement was Arabs keep oil flowing to keep prices down, and we proved security.

Back in the 70s SA wasadvertisngfor VN bets toprotect infrastructure.

There is a story behind British Gurkas in the ME.
AI Overview
British Gurkhas have a deeply rooted history of military deployment in the Middle East, spanning from the early 20th century to modern conflicts. Recruited from the hills of Nepal, these elite soldiers have operated across the region as part of the British Indian Army and, later, the British Army's Brigade of Gurkhas.

Iran is really a bad actor no doubt about that, and attacks on SA go far back. Top[ling the Saudi monarchy along with Israel has been Iranian policy.

Until Trump and Netanyahu's militray response there was a somewhat stable balance of power that kept Hormuz open. Until Trump keeping it open was the point and the only point. For obvious reasons as we see now.

Strap in, people. The price of fuel is set to skyrocket in the next few days.
