Maybe I missed it, perhaps a lot of members are not aware of it, but I haven’t seen any mention of the barbaric, evil attack that was perpetrated against western civilization by islamic holy warriors that resulted in the deaths of 3,000~ people in the USA on 9/11/2001. For people that weren’t even born when this barbarity occurred this anniversary will hopefully open their eyes to the threat that the backward ideology that is islam, poses to western civilization.

I remember the scary thing about that truly despicable attack. It was the words “Department of Homeland Security” uttered soon thereafter, intended to reassure the timid throngs that this wouldn’t be allowed to happen to them again.
Sounded totally Hitlerian at the time and even moreso today. It ran a shiver up my spine when I first heard it, and it has turned out to be exactly that thing I was imagining.
Oh well, I did my part planting doubts about Trump in the minds of some DHS’s employees. Most of them are gone now.

What about Pearl Harbor? How many young people today have a clue what it was an meant. Do you know which ship sunk at Pearl Harbor was left as a memorial and a tomb?

Do you know what the Missouri was famous for?

I knew somebody who was at a trade show when it happened. My sister's brother in law was a NYC transit cop. a first responder.

She was a teacher assistant on Long Island, she said the kids were terrified.

My father worked on the bullring conduction.

Yes we should remember, but waving the flag is not going to do anything about the disastrous war with Iran and its consequences.

Be prepared for more of it win what we are doing in Iran. I have to assume the FBI is foiling attempts and plans we never hear about.

Phony patriotism by Trump et al and polical use of te remberance makes me sick.

Do you know what the Missouri was famous for?
It is famous for me visiting it 2006 and taking a picture standing next to Japanese Surrender Commemorative Plaque
Have you noticed the analogy of the USS Arizonia and the current Russian Black sea fleet?

TSwizzle must be super confused or nearly blind if he has never heard mention of 9/11 on this forum before.

Thank goodness you remembered it. I think the entire nation forgot about the attack.

Personally, I've grown exhausted of people usurping the murder and mass trauma from 9/11 for their own bigoted agenda.

Ideologies that threaten civilization aren’t limited to the backward superstitious variety it seems. I arrived at internet infidels shortly after the 9/11 attacks. It was a refuge from the superstitious irrational craziness that were the Islamic terrorists and the Christianist reactionaries. Well I though that was the case.

Well, 25 years here has shown me that religion and irrational evil ideology don’t have to flow from superstition. I thought atheism inoculated people against the evils propped up and rationalized through fundamentalist religion. Nope. Atheists can be fundies about the same stupid shit. They just find other make-believe to rationalize their bigotry, racism, sexism, etc…

Hell, we have American atheists walking hand in hand with the Trump GOP while it carries out Project 2025, while it has a Doug Wilson follower heading the military. Why do they do that? Same imaginary enemies maybe? Shared hatred and bigotry? Good old fashioned sexism where they thing Daimon King is a good guy that got a raw deal?

Whatever the case, I see them in the same light as Doug Wilson or any other fundamentalist Islamist or Christianist. They here same that all Islam is Islamist backwards threat without looking at the “ists” in their midst because they ultimately are “ists” themselves even though they affirm no superstition.

Do you mean that Russia has a right to nuke Kievshima?
You are confused. Pearl Harbor was a surprise, unprovoked attack on the US Pacific Fleet. The US, the victim, returned that unkindness, eventually, in the form of two nuclear strikes on minor civilian centers in Japan, who was the aggressor. In the Russia Ukraine conflict, Russia performed the unprovoked surprise attack on Ukraine in 2014. So, no. The aggressor does not earn themselves a nuclear launch against the victim. Instead, the US should offer Ukraine a couple nukes to deploy on say... Ryazan, and Volgograd, for example.

Feel free to not respond to this if you agree.

I see very little discussion of anniversaries of anything on here.

It is also the 25th anniversary. The "where were you" thing has run its course.

So you don't really want to discuss 9/11, you want to discuss your bigoted hatred.

911 was a horrific thing, but not as horrific as the US killing as many as 4 million Muslims due to our insanely, expensive forever wars.

Unworthy victims: Western wars have killed four million Muslims since 1990

Landmark research proves that the US-led ‘war on terror’ has killed as many as 2 million people, but this is a fraction of Western responsibility for deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan over the last two decades

Last month, the Washington DC-based Physicians for Social Responsibility (PRS) released a landmark study concluding that the death toll from 10 years of the “War on Terror” since the 9/11 attacks is at least 1.3 million, and could be as high as 2 million.

The 97-page report by the Nobel Peace Prize-winning doctors’ group is the first to tally up the total number of civilian casualties from US-led counter-terrorism interventions in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The PSR report is authored by an interdisciplinary team of leading public health experts, including Dr. Robert Gould, director of health professional outreach and education at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center, and Professor Tim Takaro of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University.

Yet it has been almost completely blacked out by the English-language media, despite being the first effort by a world-leading public health organisation to produce a scientifically robust calculation of the number of people killed by the US-UK-led “war on terror”.

Not honest.

After US-led forces pulled out, the war on Iraq continued in economic form through the US-UK imposed UN sanctions regime, on the pretext of denying Saddam Hussein the materials necessary to make weapons of mass destruction. Items banned from Iraq under this rationale included a vast number of items needed for everyday life.

No. This is blaming the US for deaths Saddam engineered. Saddam repeatedly chose the path of doing nothing rather than accepting the approach that he couldn't make improper use of. The link to the study itself is coming up 403.

I think it'd be best to consider the Middle East Conflict something along the lines of a *looks at calendar* going on 70 year war. The Middle East has suffered greatly from external meddling, external attacks, internal meddling, and internal attacks. Trying to pin numbers of deaths and suffering to any single cause is folly. There is a lot of blame for all the suffering to go around.

I totally disagree with you. Despite the horrific act committed by a small number of Muslim terrorists, there was no reason to start the wars started by Bush. Plus, several thousand Americans died in his insane wars. When one group commits an act of terror, reacting by starting a war against an entire country is simply wrong, expensive and it kills a lot of people.'

I know you disagree, but I see what Israel has done in a similar way. Hamas committed a horrific act of terror that results in the deaths of many innocent people. But, affair, that didn't justify killing thousands of Palestinian citizens in return. War is hell and it's almost never a way to solve problems, but then considering that we are closely related to chimps, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that male dominated societies often act by starting expensive, damaging wars. Just sayin" Not going to argue endlessly about this.
