    Bridges Are Us

Some engineering trivia, vibration and resonance. Back in the 80s I ran a vibration test on a camera mounted in a gimbal for mounting on an aircraft. The gimbal was hogged out of a solid aluminum black and you could not deform it with a sledge hammer. The table moved maybe 1/8 of an inch. When...

I'm right, prove me wrong. You can't. I am wrong and so are you.

The forum is a place to work on and improve skills. An education depending on how you use it.

Most Americans in Abraham Lincoln's day were Christians. (Christians who didnt own slaves.) Prove me wrong.

The mother of all derails, for sure. However Lion's assertion that since most 19th century Christians did not own slaves they were not pro slavery has been soundly refuted.

    What Are You Eating Today?

A new breakfast for me. Microwave a small potato, 3 1/2 minutes. Warm up frozen green peas in the microwave, 1 minute. Scramble eggs with ham. Mix and add a little sesame dressing.

    Black Holes: Some Recent Observations

You are falling feet first into a black hole. Doesn't your heart have to pump blood against the gravity even if you are in free fall?

According to Robert Sapolsky, human free will does not exist

Colloquially free will and free choice are synonymous. I do not not think it is possible to make a choice that is completely without influence or coercion in some form. Markeibg and advertising and pop culture in general get embedded in the subconscious. Choices to a degree are Pavlovian.. We...

Most Americans in Abraham Lincoln's day were Christians. (Christians who didnt own slaves.) Prove me wrong.

If there was an attempt to end slavery at the framing of the constitution there would have been no consensus for a federal government. As it was COTUS as we have it was the second attempt at a government. https://constitutioncenter.org/the-constitution/articles/article-i/clauses/761

I agree that the war was in the end was about states' rights vs federal government. Slavery was not addressed in the constitution because it wound not get support.

Merged Gaza just launched an unprovoked attack on Israel

Actually up till now over here we have only seen the Israeli side painting themselves as innocent victims. We see it in the pathetic Israeli TV propaganda. Old allegedly staving Israeli women, requests for donations for bomb shelters. Now we see the Palestrina side. They have been dealing with...

Merged Gaza just launched an unprovoked attack on Israel

Netanyahu et al are hiding behind antisemitism to cover their asses and justify what amounts to genocide. We can see now from reports it is certainly not all Israelis. There have been anti war Jewish protests over here.

    Butker Speech

The proposed legislation. I grew u hearing 'Jews killed Christ'. https://catholicreview.org/fact-check-house-bill-cracking-down-on-antisemitism-does-not-restrict-biblical-teaching/ Were on an increasingly steep slippery slope.

What should/can we all agree on?

When Unknown Soldier appeared on the form he argued that because across mathematics the statement 1 + 1 does not always algebraically add up to 2 that math was wrong. In philosophy the problem is always narrowing the scope and possibly of interpretations. We commonly say the Earth is round...

Wow tautology.....Lion must be smarter than we give him credit for. The Emancipation Proclamation was at least in part intended to foster rebellion in the south by slaves. Lion, do you argue that the majority of Christians in the day opposed slavery?

I'm right, prove me wrong. You can't. I am wrong and so are you.

Argument form authority, "I have a PHD in xxx, and you do not therefore I am right". A joke I heard from a physicist. Eisenstein was in the audience at a presentation. At the end the speaker said ' Therefore this is true!". Einstein asked"But why must it be true?". The speaker replied...

    Testing Philosophy

Everything except law, religion, and medicine was under the collective category of philosophy, mea nag 'love of knowledge'. There was doctor of law, doctor of medicine, and doctor of philosophy aka PHD. Science is not philosophy no matter how much one wants it it to be. Popper's definition of...

What should/can we all agree on?

1.Disagree, 2+2 = 4 in arithmetic, the + operator has more than one use. 2. Disagree, the Earth is not round. It is oblate spheroid. 3. Disagree, left and right are the equally unbelievable. 4.
