Christianity: Friend or foe to science?

Science = looking at the preponderance of evidence and drawing conclusions. Christianity = admitting (or manufacturing) only evidence that supports a predetermined conclusion.

How much does the hypocrisy of Christians make you doubt the claims of Christianity?

In my opinion, once you remove the resurrection from the story, who cares if somebody named Jesus ever lived or was crucified by the Romans? That's like saying it's possible that somebody named Jack actually lived, and he might have planted some beans. I don't really care what other people...

How much does the hypocrisy of Christians make you doubt the claims of Christianity?

I doubt the claims of Christianity because those claims are absurd. The hypocrisy of Christians only makes me doubt Christians.

The Death of Judas (Both Versions of the Story)

I'm having a hard time imagining a scenario in which tumbling head first would cause a person to become disemboweled.

What issues about religion are most important to you?

The fact that the religious can't keep their beliefs to themselves.

Partly defending Pascal's Wager? (only one popular eternal hell for non-believers)

The failure of Pascal's Wager is thinking that a person can just decide what to believe in order to hedge their bet on the afterlife, and that this is, somehow, going to get them into heaven, should Christianity turn out to be true.

Paradox; the meek shall inherit the Earth

Perhaps what he really meant was that the meek will find themselves face down in the dirt.

    The Life Transformed by Christ

My mother. As she put it, she cried out to the lord and in so doing found the strength to transform her life. She was an alcoholic trapped in a physically and mentally abusive relationship with my father. Having accepted Jesus, she quit drinking and remained sober for the rest of her life. She...

    Christianity as idolatry

When I did a lot of driving, I found myself listening to a lot of Christian radio. It's amazing how in rural America you can almost always find a Christian radio station when nothing else is available. At any rate, from listening to those stations, I was struck how often the word "idol" gets...

    LGBTQ+ and Christianity

I once had a conversation with an elderly, Pentecostal Christian, neighbor who waxed nostalgic for the days when her husband, a retired police officer, was allowed to arrest homosexuals.

    Biblical Morality

A good example of this is the movie 'Lilies of the Field' starring Sidney Poitier as an itinerant laborer/handyman who encounters a group of nuns when he stops at a remote farm looking to get some water for his overheating car's radiator. The Mother in charge of the group of nuns hoodwinks him...

Is the "rich young man" a special case?

You can either look at it as none of these people are getting in to heaven, or god favors the sly and crafty, so heaven will be full of these people.

christian cliches that grind your gears

The entire premise of the movie God's Not Dead rests on the atheist professor being mad at god for allowing his wife to die.

christian cliches that grind your gears

That, of course, would feed into the cliche that athiests are just mad at god.

There was a global prayer against atheism

Ummm.... Wouldn't god's intervention sort of go against everybody's free will?

What would count as proof of God

Two floors up in an apartment block there is water everywhere. It's called indoor plumbing.

What TV are you watching and how would you rate it? [Revive from FRDB]

Erin Grey in spandex was the only reason I ever watched Buck Rogers.

What TV are you watching and how would you rate it? [Revive from FRDB]

Lost in Space reboot - 0/10 Wife wanted to watch this, so we gave it a shot. I had trepidation going in based on the casting. I don't think we got past the opening scene before we were both picking it apart. My reservations about the casting were quickly confirmed, and nothing about the story...
