2023 House vote for speaker

Maybe someone should roll in an oil barrel sized bucket of chicken fingers, permeating the room with it's scent and yell "not a single one is to be touched until we have a speaker!".

Dayum.
I wish we had Godzillary back.

That bitch would get something done.
Tom

There were about 15 initial non-voters comprised of mostly Republicans and maybe three Democrats, and when they got a second chance to vote at the end, the final result was the same as the last round, with Spartz again the only present voter.

Spartz was born in Ukraine. I would imagine she's not terribly pleased with the "we're spending too much money in Ukraine" wing of her party...

C-SPAN - "On the 14 previous occasions when multiple ballots were required to elect a speaker, no speaker was ever chosen on ballots four through eight."

I can only wonder what the markets would be doing now at the prospect of such "governance" if the 2023 budget had not already been enacted...

A fifth of whisky to each Republican. When enough of them pass out in a drunken stupor, Jefferies wins

If I were Jeffries I really wouldn't want the job...

Sixth vote is planned. Currently Yea-huh is at 201 and Nuh-uh stuck at 20.

Five votes, with less than a glacial pace of change. The GOP's election for Speaker is the equivalent effectiveness of a Facebook comment section of a news article.

Rumors on the House floor that maybe the GOP are a bunch of dysfunctional assholes.

Sixth vote is upon us... time will tell just how much of a waste of time it is. *spoiler alert* Complete.

CNN reports Gaetz is demanding a subcommittee gavel to support McCarthy.

CNN is learning about some of Rep. Matt Gaetz's demands from Kevin McCarthy on Monday evening before the speaker’s vote.

He demanded a subcommittee gavel on the powerful House Armed Services Committee, a source said, which McCarthy rejected.
Talk about overplaying one's hand.

Meanwhile GOP is informally asking Democrats what needs to be done to get Democrats to let GOP put thumb on scale to get McCarthy to win.
CNN said:
Rank-and-file Republicans have begun to feel out Democrats about what concessions they would need in exchange for them agreeing to either vote “present” or not show up, which would lower the threshold needed to become speaker, according to multiple sources familiar with that matter.
"Go fuck yourself" comes to mind.

Idiot Politician: We need a new vision!!
Me: ah-huh like what?
Idiot Politician: One where we work for the American people!
Me: Oh, you mean the old vision.

Buck did not vote when called. (It is reported he will no longer support McCarthy.) And Donalds gets his 5th vote (thereby blocking McCarthy a sixth time) before we're out of the Cs...

I’ll go with -
“How about 11 of you vote for Jeffries?”
Or
”How about 11 of you switch to independent and vote for Jeffries?”

And Scalise is the main alternate name being floated, but Buck also didn't vote when first called last round, so his initial non-vote may mean nothing.

Scalise provides nothing different than McCarthy. They are both "the man". If McCarthy is going to collapse and give in tonight, he better try to put an end to things soon, before GOP'ers start lining up for favors.

Fuck, you gave Gaetz a chairmanship?! Well I want one too!
