2023 House vote for speaker

Jordan got six votes but he voted for McCarthy.

They're on second round of votes now. Biggs voted for Jordan this round.

Biggs -> Jordan -> McCarthy

Jordan helped prevent McCarthy from becoming Speaker awhile ago. The rabid partisans have since gotten together. I don't think Jordan wants it over McCarthy.

Currently McCarthy has lost the second vote too. Question is by how much, and then that might indicate where things go with Jordan (or *insert some other name here*). Honestly, Jordan and McCarthy are two steaming piles of hyper partisan manure (who are allies)... so it would seem quite odd to be fighting over which one to vote for. And there doesn't appear to be a *insert new third candidate* that'd make things work for all.

Same overall count. 19 GOP defectors (all voting for Jordan this time, who voted for McCarthy...)

And CSPAN says 213 for Jeffries. Error or a Republican voted for Jeffries?

Looks like you have to wait until the people at the front of the room get done tallying the official figures. So far both ballots have been 203 McCarthy, 212 Jeffries, 19 Other (a mix of Biggs/Jordan/etc. on the first round, all Jordan on the second).

If the 19 holdouts simply walked out of the room and didn't vote that would put Jeffries in the seat. Given how hard its going to be for anybody to herd this particular bunch of cats it might be a strategic move to do so...

Good News: McCarthy didn't shed support, so the blood in the water might not be quite as overpowering as the Reps. Tarr and Fether would have hoped.
Bad News: McCarthy didn't gain support, even after the only alternative this time around vocally supported McCarthy.

Third vote would go a long way at indicating whether the not-McCarthy voters will continue to hold their breath.

This is a bit rich.

article said:
A GOP lawmaker who is supporting House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy says members are already hearing from Republican donors and constituents who think the party “looks stupid” for not being able to elect a speaker.
So stupid... just now?

Third vote sounds like it is about to begin. Will the toddlers continue to hold their breath?

What Jonatha said. Maybe they’ll pass out from holding their breath.
It would be weird to have a speaker from a minor party …

I predict a McCarthy win in 7-10 days.

It seems the only way to win, without somehow getting the toddlers in line would be to trick the Dems into not being present for the vote.

McCarthy lost his first vote, Byron Donalds (FL). Rep. Donalds voted for McCarthy twice, but now he went to Jordan. It'd be real hard to see this swing to Jordan vote by vote, as he needs almost every GOP vote in the House. However, losing any votes isn't good (read, potentially fatal in a political sense) for McCarthy.

Could the Dems extract anything from Mac in exchange for going home?

The best strategy for the repubilcans would to actually have a few vote for Jeffries. They would still hold power over what actually gets passed by having the majority, and could blame everything that goes wrong on Jeffries, their new Pelosi. This would also give them a sanely run House, rather than one that has to constantly bow to pressure from the crazy caucus.

We're witnessing MAGAtardism in full bloom.
