Abolishing the US Senate?

If only the founders had made representation in one the chambers of Congress based on population rather than the states. Why didn't they do that?
So that's all the population representation that we deserve, right?

Yeah, it's called the Great Compromise. Without it, there would be no USA. There already is a chamber based on population representation. Why would the smaller states ever agree otherwise? So many people forget that it's the United States.

Yeah, it's called the Great Compromise.

Heck of a compromise - "We, the landed gentry, shall control the executive and judiciary branches, as well as the greater of the two parts of the legislative branch. As a gesture of compromise, we will grant the general population a toothless, but highly symbolic lesser branch of the legislature."

The perfect Rethuglican vision - except that now they have it ALL, through gerrymandering, voter suppression and plenty of help from foreign adversaries of the country they are sworn to serve and protect.

???? The original 13 states were sovereign states. The states created the federal government, not the other way around. States still retain sovereignty over many matters; for this reason, states can and have sued the federal government on various issues. Again, people need to get over this lack of understanding.

I think that's well understood in most quarters. In no way does it diminish the dynamic I described, which is how it IS, not what was envisioned.
