America arrests Huawei CFO for doing business with Iran

I believe that what's going on here is that they have US suppliers.

We caught them selling to Iran. They agreed to behave--and kept right on selling to Iran. I'm not sure exactly how this translates to criminal charges but there's probably something in the export agreements about those US-origin parts that are how US law got violated here.

When I first heard about it, I figured it had to do with the phones having spyware hardcoded into them.

Huawei does not need to have US-origin parts.
Here are the charges:
At a bail hearing for Meng in a Canadian court in Vancouver, John Gibb-Carsley, the Canadian prosecutor, said Meng misled financial institutions about the connection between Huawei and Skycom at a time when there were sanctions against Iran, saying there was no relationship. In fact, he said, Huawei and Skycom were the same company. “This is the crux, I say, of the alleged fraud,” Gibb-Carsley said.
US can charge foreign criminals even when their crime have nothing to do with US, as long as US services were used in the crime. I mean, if criminal used gmail then they will send him to prison, well conceivably :)

Huawei is no doubt have a lot of exposure to US finance markets and such
