BALTIMORE, MARYLAND -- A recent study released by Johns Hopkins University indicates America is so much better at dealing with mass killings than it was not even five years ago. "It is incredible," noted Professor William Teasdale. "We, as a nation have advanced light years since Columbine."
The paper notes that while America is no stranger to mass killings, it has only recently reached a stage where it lets them pass by like "water off a duck's back." America has witnessed mass killings in the 80s and 90s, but the paper noted that the reaction to such events was "untold anguish" and "tremendous" levels of self induced empathetic pain.
The 21st Century has since seen a large uptick in mass killings, even excluding the 9/11 terror attacks. The killers disgruntled motives have varied greatly from being about religion to race to employment.
According to the paper, Sandy Hook was the "turning point between empathetic anguish and resigned apathy". The paper noted that between the NRA quickly released statement about the importance of the 2nd Amendment and Congress's complete indifference, many Americans started to just feel "numb".
"With the latest killings in Las Vegas," noted Professor Teasdale, "we have witnessed people just getting over it quickly."
The paper concludes that America is quickly moving pace to arrive at a point where the news doesn't even cover the murders because people will be filled with apathetic indifference, presuming the shooter(s) aren't black, Muslim, or an immigrant.
