In the U.S., people like to point to how strange North Korean pop culture (lacking a better term) and worthy of ridicule. However, when comparing the two examples below... just compare them.

I actually kind of enjoyed the NK video. It has a sweetness to it that I found interesting.

The following, on the other hand, while not quite nightmare fuel, is... I don't know wtf to call it, except that it's weird and disquieting.

North Korea's economy is too weak to generate the kind of truly fucked up pop culture garbage you'll find in places like America or Japan. There's a global competition going on, and to be honest, North Korea isn't even in the running.

Is the Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen the reason we have an Apple Pencil instead of an Apple Pen for use with everyone's iPads?

Thirty years ago it would just be cheesy.

The Japanese are no pikers in the weird department:

The little girl thing is beyond weird, it crosses the bridge to disturbing.

I posted a country & western "music" video. That's automatically more disturbing.

Yes, we Americans are fucked up. Not like the Brits, French, Germans, and Italians.

From the few documentaries that have been allowed to film, NK does have a pop culture. It essentialy hate and fear of Americans, and ancestor leader worship. . Kids video games are about killing Americans.

What's with that British commoner deference to titled aristocrats? I'd rather drive a nail in my head than address someone as lord, or duke, or duchess...and dare I say it queen.
