Apocalypse Rising ... No, Wait: Why didn't the police "slow down" in NYC bring about the End of Days?

people were being ARRESTED for being "rude assholes" or for traffic violations, etc? Well that's part of the problem right there

You think it's ok to piss in public??

And you normally only get arrested for a traffic violation if you don't appear in court for your previous ticket. What do you want to do, make tickets meaningless?

He listed these things as stuff people would ordinarily be arrested for: littering, pissing in public, being rude assholes, traffic violations, parking violations

Not ticketed. ARRESTED.

Are you suggesting that it is good public policy to arrest people for being rude assholes? ARRESTED for a parking violation? Is that what the NYPD has been doing with their time? If so, perhaps NY needs to lay off about 3/4's of their force.

They're not ticketing either. That means they're not arresting when people ignore tickets.

You are torturing the meaning of "arrest" to avoid the actual point. The majority of people who receive a ticket, pay them (or go to court to get them thrown out), so trying to pretend not issuing traffic tickets = not making arrests is ridiculous.

Not issuing parking tickets does seem to be the main focus of this illegal strike though.

Any update on the slow down? Things still going okay in NYC? Tickets still at all time low?

I heard a black man was observed walking down the street, wearing a hoodie in broad daylight, and was not stopped by police. This is the kind of lawlessness that DeBlasio has engendered by mouthing his hate filled meanderings against the NYPD.

One thing i'm confused about - cops don't write that many parking tickets. They're written by what we used to call meter maids, who aren't NYPD. So I don't know if the figure showing parking tickets are down by 90% applies only to those written by NYPD, which likely wouldn't be a large proportion of the total.

The slowdown hasn't come up in conversation once, not that I've been around all that much. It doesn't seem to be on anyone's mind. The one anecdote I heard, from a politics email list I'm a member of consisting mainly of NY web people, was that a domestic violence call on a block in a white neighborhood in Brooklyn required multiple calls. Finally two units showed up and didn't do anything in spite of the woman having visible injuries(black eye or something I forget). FWIW.

I would guess that turnstile-jumping is up, but with all the cameras now, maybe not. Who would know?
