The Archbishop of Canterbury has resigned, after a report found that he "could and should" have reported John Smyth, over his sexual abuse of boys at religious camps in England from the 1960s until 1984, and then in Zimbabwe, culminating in the death of 16 year old Guide Nyachuru in 1992.

These crimes were allegedly known to the Archbishop at an early stage - certainly no later than 1982, when he recieved an internal report into allegations of abuse, but were not reported to police until 2013.

Smyth died in 2018, having never faced charges.

Could be the tip of the iceberg, as over 30 church officials are being investigated for their knowledge of the crimes as they were happening. Isn't this astounding, and who would think in a thousand years that this could happen in a Christian institution?

Yeah, it's almost as if they felt that the protection of the institution was far more important than the protection of children.

Obviously we should look to such people for moral guidance.
