I had to listen to my sister have an intellectually bereft shit-fit that amounted to, "How dare they attack the First Lady! Have they no shame???" a few weeks back.

In order to maintain peace and not cut another person out of my life I mumbled something about how being in the spotlight is part of the gig along with a shoulder shrug, rather than saying what I would've liked to have said; something about Hillary, Chelsea Clinton, gold digging, soft core porn photo shoots, birther spouting vampire, costing the taxpayers tens of millions of dollars by refusing to leave New York for six months, etc.

As for the Christian right, the excuse for their uber-hypocrisy is that Trump is a purely practical way for them to achieve their goals. That is, he was the only candidate that was paying attention to their concerns (shameless, naked pandering = addressing their concerns).

I guess if the need to create a new Mount Everest out of horse shit arises, we have the reserves to do so.

One of the consequences of the Euthyphro dilemma is that all authority-based moral systems lead to the most extreme form of moral relativism imaginable. Under authority-based moral systems, things are not good or bad based on what is done, but based on who does them.

Thus, when God ordered everyone in a city killed, including the babies and animals, this was a good thing, but if you were to order the same thing, that would be extremely immoral. (This is an actual argument made by William Lane Craig, who also insists that moral absolutism proves God.)
