Black school board member thinks black supremacist terrorists might have had a point

Tens of millions of white people vote for sex assaulting braggart who isn't allowed to run a charity in the state of NY and ran a fake university, and after election, had a hard time speaking badly about white supremacy.

Now I know... he isn't on a school board, but...

I know I posted this in the wrong forum (mods, could you move it), but not everything is about Trump. Pulling out Trump as a supposed trump card no matter the topic is textbook whataboutism and a symptom of TDS.

Truly deplorable.

Just to be clear... Do you think the school board member who was interested in the motivations of the murderers is deplorable? Or do you think the Jersey City Mayor who wants the school board member removed from office is deplorable?

I think the school board member was way out of line with the antisemitic commentary. Clearly she has lost credibility as a rational actor interested in improving education for all.

BREAKING NEWS

A person said something stupid.

Exactly. Finding an idiot in a low level position doesn't mean much.

It's worse when you take what some idiot says and apply identity politics to it. Like this:

Black school board member says X.
Jew doctor does X.
Female pastor says X.
Asian teacher says X.

There's no good reason for it. There are some possible bad reasons. But again, no good reason to point out an arbitrary single identifying chatacteristic along with the dumb thing they did.

The school board member who is calling Jews "brutes" and is justifying the actions of those black supremacist terrorists is deplorable, of course.

She should go back to the basket she crawled out of.

BREAKING NEWS

A person said something stupid.

Not just a person, but an elected official.

Exactly. Finding an idiot in a low level position doesn't mean much.

School board member may be relatively low level, but it's still an elected position, and one that is influential regarding education in that district.

Let's imagine a scenario where a white school board member wrote something trying to justify say the El Paso shooting. Don2 would be the among first blasting "white supremacy" on here!

Okay. Cool.

Just to be clear though... there is no such thing as a Jewish person who is also a "Brute," right?

There is a good reason. This elected offical was defending, at least tacitly, a couple of black supremacist terrorists. That she shares the same race as those terrorists is relevant to her defending them.

There surely are. But buying real estate does not make one brutish. Not even if they are "joos".
And it certainly does not justify sending a "message" with AR15s and shotguns.

Oh, we surely agree on your last sentence, but... I just want to make sure we all understand that identifying a person as a "brute" could be an entirely legitimate characterization even if they belong to <insert identity politics group>. In fact, the person in this OP might not have overreacted at all in her characterization of the individuals in question.

Everyone has motivations and exploring the motivations of people who have done horrible things is a valid way to help identify problems and reduce the prevalence and tragic repercussions of those problems in the future. It doesn't have to be about validating the horror, it can be about drawing attention to and addressing real and persistent grievances.

Germans had real grievances before WWII. Trump supporters in the South and the Rust Belt had (and have) real grievances in 2016. If these issues had been properly addressed sooner, Hitler's party might not have captured the Reichstag and Republicans might have nominated a more sensible candidate in 2016. We can't address problems if we merely close our eyes and ears to them because the come from a place of tragedy or are messages we simply don't want to hear.

Oh, and thank you for playing along with my weird questions. I really respect that.

This guy should be kicked out on his ass. However, in the big picture he doesn't mean much.

Now I know... he isn't on a school board, but...

Right wing authoritarian followers hijack their own executive functions by focusing on one or two stupid and/or crazy outliers among those they perceive as the opposition. This is necessary because it leaves no resources for reflecting on the fact that the stupidest and craziest right wingers are not only the majority, but sit at the highest levels of power.

This is a great point.
