This could be fun!

CNN)The Justice Department is investigating a potential crime related to funneling money to the White House or related political committee in exchange for a presidential pardon, according to court records unsealed Tuesday in federal court.

The case is the latest legal twist in the waning days of President Donald Trump's administration after several of his top advisers have been convicted of federal criminal charges and as the possibility rises of Trump giving pardons to those who've been loyal to him.

The disclosure is in 20 pages of partially redacted documents made public by the DC District Court on Tuesday afternoon. The records show Chief Judge Beryl Howell's review in August of a request from prosecutors to access documents obtained in a search as part of a bribery-for-pardon investigation.

I've long suspected and wondered when this would come up. It's so expected one could easily predict it going on.

And

(CNN)President Donald Trump's associates are making appeals to him in the hopes of obtaining pardons before he leaves office, a source familiar with the matter told CNN on Tuesday.

The source said the list of associates broaching the subject of preemptive pardons that would seek to shield those individuals from prosecution includes Rudy Giuliani, who has been leading the President's longshot legal battles to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in his role as Trump's personal attorney.

Giuliani denied discussing a preemptive pardon with the President, telling CNN that the "(New York) Times is completely wrong." He further denied he has talked to anyone at the White House about a pardon for himself.

The New York Times first reported that Giuliani was discussing a pardon with the President.

Glenn Kirshner was just talking about this yesterday, saying that there are numerous illegal uses of the pardon power. Bribery was one of them. Looks like he hit the nail on the head.

Can Trump pardon himself for taking bribes to use the pardon?

It makes my head spin.

Wow... that seems to directly implicate Giuliani and Trump.

How so? It appears that individuals intended to lobby the executive for a pardon but failed to register as a lobbyist under the Lobbying Disclosure Act. That is a civil not a criminal violation, btw. Nothing implicates Trump or Giuliani. Indeed, the purpose of the Court's order was determining whether emails obtained by the DOJ were subject to the attorney-client privilege. Trump doesn't use email.

Good news, it is has been declared "Fake News" by Trump.

Though I wonder why the DoJ has a document like this if it is fake news.

That is called the discovery process. It happens in every single court case. It is not what the case is "about". It is a standard part of any case where the body of evidence is collected and registered to the court so either side can be fully prepared for what the case is ACTUALLY about.
AC Privilege (and other forms of privilege) is very important because it eliminates documents from the entire body of evidence, based on its content.

Donny wouldn't sell pardons. We know that because the upstanding nature of his character is well known.
The AG should be fired for allowing the DOJ to forward this criminal complaint.
Rudy should be made acting Attorney General!

I’m aware of that. I’m a lawyer. But the order, despite the redactions, state the DOJ’s allegations. And this is actually not technically discovery, as the DOJ did not file suit. The DOJ simply wanted the green light to utilize the emails (which it apparently obtained during a raid). I’d suspect that this case would be settled shortly.

From Jon Cryer:

“All the stuff Biden should do because Republicans were fine with it when Trump did it.

Ignore Senate oversight by appointing “acting” members of his cabinet. Ignore subpoenas. Executive orders for everything!!

Appoint Hunter Biden as White House advisor, give him security clearance he doesn’t deserve, then put him in charge of coronavirus and peace in the Middle East.

Berate, belittle and insult the Republican leaders and their constituents at every opportunity. And take joy in their unhappiness.

Have foreign countries, companies and lobbyists pay Biden business entities while he makes decisions affecting them.

Golf, golf, golf! At Biden-owned resorts, thus, forcing taxpayers to put money directly in his pockets.

Increase the national debt by 36 percent. Increase the federal budget deficit by 4 trillion dollars. Float federal pardons to induce federal employees to break the law. Float federal pardons to induce co-conspirators to clam up.
Publicly threaten congressional witnesses. Extort a foreign country into fabricating a smear against his Republican opponent. Vastly over-finance his inauguration, and then have millions of the money just “disappear.”

Publicly ask a foreign adversary to commit crimes to help his campaign. Lie to a special prosecutor about it. Obstruct justice five times about it. Lie about the special prosecutor’s report about it.

Objectively and verifiably lie at least 120 times a week. Have government employees illegally campaign on his behalf on a daily basis.

And I won’t even get into how Republican leaders have been fine with the worst horrors of the Trump presidency. The family separations, the increase in civilian drone deaths, the hundreds of thousands of Americans dead from Covid. They were okay with all of it.

So, anytime they raise an objection to anything, the Biden administration should just ignore what they say and shout “Trump!” in their face. Cause, really, they can shut the fuck up.
Just like they did when Trump was president.”
