Well, if you just choose not to believe it, that must mean there is no connection! I mean, it's not as if we didn't just watch millions of Christians defend the Charlottesville Nazis with "both sides" excuses.

You think you have to choose to be evil for this to apply.

It's saying that many who THINK they're doing good, doing the God/Jesus thing correctly, are in error. Even if they are able to perform GREAT THINGS in Jesus' name, they're doomed because they dot the wrong I's and cross the wrong T's.

Just because something calls them selves christian or atheist or buddhist does mean they act as they should.
I will still apply "By their fruits you will know them".
If they do not act as their self-labelled suggests them I am under no obligation to believe that their claim is true.
