Christopher Lee . . . dead

Yeah, this is one of the headlines you knew wasn't that far away but are still surprised to see it.

I hope they remember to keep his body out of the direct sunlight so he can reanimate and we can all be happy again!

First Leonard Nimoy and now Christopher Lee. Not a good year for sci-fi/fantasy. :(

how's that?

nimoy officially retired from acting years and years ago, aside from his cameos in those god awful "star trek" reboots, he wasn't doing anything.
and the only thing lee has done in the last 15 years of any note is the LOTR movies, which are finished.

soooo... what difference does this make for sci-fi and fantasy movies? it's not like their filmography is vaporized when they die.
some old-as-shit people who weren't acting anymore in anything you care about kicked it. so what?

A memorable performer. One of my favorite Christopher Lee roles was his turn as a superb Rochefort in Richard Lester's The Three Musketeers and The Four Musketeers, probably the finest Dumas-to-film adaptations ever.

A performance of his I have never seen, and very much hope to--Flay in the BBC miniseries Gormenghast.

That's a bit harsh. Mark Hamill's career pretty much died after Star Wars, but I will feel a twinge of sadness when he eventually passes away. Star Wars, Star Trek, and LOTR were a big part of my youth. As they have been for many others.

i really don't think it is - i just don't understand the idolatry of celebrity deaths, especially when it's someone who hasn't done anything in a while.

except that it totally hasn't, at all.
his film acting career died off, sure, but he's become a very prolific voice actor in cartoons and video games: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000434/?ref_=nv_sr_1
if he were to suddenly drop dead that would have a big impact on several currently in-progress franchises.

i just don't get why people have a fit over some old guy dying because that old guy recorded a movie they like 40 years ago.

Who is having a fit?

OP says he died. Some people have noted what he had done, he'd be missed.
