An interesting study of the linkage between climate skepticism and religion.

.....
For a significant number of Americans, the reality, causes and meaning of global warming are seen through the lens of their religious beliefs. Some reject the evidence that humans are causing global warming because they believe God controls the climate. Others believe that global warming is evidence that the world will be ending soon, and that we don’t need to worry about global warming in light of the approaching apocalypse. To assess the level of acceptance of these beliefs among Americans, we surveyed a nationally representative sample of 1,204 American adults in March, 2016.

...

This survey puts some numbers to the phenomena.

Interesting, but pretty much what I'd have expected.
Question:
4. The apocalypse will happen in my lifetime
What "apcalypse" are we talking about? I wouldn't be surprised if some sort of apocalypse occurred in the not-too-distant future.

Skepticism is becoming more common.

Why should we believe that?
Because skepticism is always becoming more common.

See a thread talking about evolution, someone'll post "You know, skepticism is becoming more common."
See a thread about the trinity, "You know, skepticism is becoming more common."
See a thread about climate change, "Yk, sibmc."
See a thread posted by a Christ-mythicist, "Yk, sibmc."

Every time you look, some thumper will inform progressives that people are becoming more and more skeptical about the progressive/liberal/atheist position.
Hell, they're so skeptical about Evolution it's becoming a theory in crisis!

I'm not skeptical about GW.
I think we are gonna cook.
Are you appalled that it is happening and affects the life on earth? Will you do anything to contribute less to it? Do you think other Christians of like mind to your own would change anything in their beliefs or behaviors because of climate change? Or do Christians who hold fast to the Bible's word think "So there it is, world's gonna fry but I'm going to heaven"?

Note that is isn't limited to conservative Christians. 23% of non-hispanic blacks reject climate change based on the belief that God controls the climate. Religion is dangerous for science and society, even when it comes in "liberal" forms.

It would've been useful if they would have combined the answers to the questions to know the total % who either reject or don't care about climate change for religious reasons.
15% reject human influence, because God is in control. 11% don't care about it because God is going to end the Earth soon anyway.
But some of the latter group are in the first group. So the total % who reject or don't care because of theism is somewhere between 15% and 26% and all Americans.

God won't destroy mankind. He had the chance with comet Shoemaker–Levy 9 but he put Jupiter in the way.

For those that deny or ignore climate change because they think the world is ending soon, I highly recommend not voting in any elections. Besides it not mattering and being a complete waste of time if Earth won't be around anymore, but it seems a bit judgmental, no? Let the candidates remain in the hands of your god... he's got it covered for you... and since you cannot possibly know his plan, it would be eternally disastrous for you to "cast judgment" on the best candidate for an elected position, especially since it won't even matter. Why risk it? See Pascal's wager.

Sure ... but its still debateable to people. Theres NO denying climate change (even as a theists) because for sure some regions on the earth have found the climate colder and other regions have found it has got warmer. Drought in some places and torrential rain to floods in others where noticeable changes have occured.

The right has a meme about this which you hear all the time: "it is arrogant to assert that man could affect the world's climate." Where they got this bizarre and arrogant meme, I don't know -- it seems to have a mesmerizing effect on their masses. It is as stupid as anything that comes out of the far right. Limbaugh in the early 2000s (I stopped listening around 2002) used to say that God would not permit man to destroy the planet, which, I guess, is a holy license for man to do whatever the f. he wants. It's why we don't need an EPA. Insanity.

Skepticism is just another form of religion.

Skepticism is essentially the polar opposite of faith, and thus the opposite of any concept of "religion" in which faith is a central feature.

Daria would be giving you a major eyeroll, if she heard your comment.
