This morning I saw someone out jogging wearing a mask. None of my business of course, each to their own but how mental is that?

You don't have any idea why this person was masked.

He's wearing it because he wants to signal his piousness or he has been scared shitless into wearing it. If I see him tomorrow I'll maybe ask him.

Your original post. You mentioned it, so it was apparently unusual to see. That qualifies as "practically no one", correct? No matter the time frame involved?

And my son's reasoning is not the only reason someone would mask outdoors. Another fairly common reason is severe immune deficiency, either innate or due to chemotherapy, HIV or other reasons. These people mask everywhere to protect themselves.

I might side with him myself, if a few things were just a little different.

Maybe if this variant was less contagious and a lot more deadly, the ultimate effect might be beneficial, killing off the stupid and sociopathic among us. But in fact, omicron is highly - super - contagious and is killing people almost at random. Many people I know who have gotten it are fully vaxed, boosted and habitual mask wearers, and still get more than a little sick. Apparently the unvaxed tend to get even sicker, but still, something like 10-12% of the associated fatalities are among those who have taken every precaution, and that's no blessing.
