Cricket... the game, not the insect

England are close to the semis. They keep slogging their way through the tournament, pretty much relying on limited performances at the bat to win their game against Pakistan. It was close in the end, but luckily for England, Archer can knock the ball around. England face New Zealand to finish the Super 8 round.

Applause to Afridi who managed an economical 7.5 an over rate and 4 wickets in the losing cause.

South Africa were unstoppable. The only unbeaten team in the group stages. New Zealand apparently didn't get the message.

They'll face the winner of India and England. India have the home advantage, and apparently the only fans attending this thing. How in the heck can the ICC afford this?

India spank New Zealand is an indisputable knockout victory for the T20 title. India's bats were vicious in the first 6 overs, before becoming merely very good. Then in the 15th over, things got a little interesting. India gave up three wickets, going from 203-1 to to 204-4. The crowd got a bit nervous. However, that'd be about it for the bowling exploits of New Zealand and India cracked something like 81732 runs in the final over. It wasn't a totally unsurmountable total to chase 255, but after a few overs, it was becoming one. About halfway in the chase it seemed clear that minus a pair of batters going for Stokes like centuries on 17 balls in a glorious partnership, this game was all but over.

So the winners were India and an Australia fanbase that could be happy to say "Well, at least New Zealand didn't win."

Congrats to Bangladesh on beating Australia in Australia. First time they have ever done so here and only the 2nd time they have ever beaten Australia. Inside 4 days too.
Bangladesh applied pressure right from the 1st ball and did not let up.
Found themselves a good young bowler and a couple of handy batsmen.

Welldone.

Now to the 2nd test.

So is this followed by a week of mourning?

I'm so behind on cricket. I'm still on the England v New Zealand test matches.

CPL time. St. Kitts and Nevis sucked this season. Had a rough start, finding it hard to get past to 150ish. Finally drive home 187, but then Antigua backs it away for 191. The bats finally get going with runs over 200, and managing a chase to reach 218. Then, despite being 3-5, they can make the final four thanks to an absurd 235 to 98 against St. Lucia giving them a very chubby positive NRR, despite having a bad year. Maybe a little luck in the playoff... who knows.

Turn on the critical match up against Barbados deep into the second over with St. Kitts and Nevis at bat... and it is 0-2. :banghead:Maybe 45 runs midway... it was a miracle to not be bowled out after staring at 51-6. Barbados didn't do too well at the beginning either... but the bar was low... very low. And St. Kitts and Nevis aren't in the playoff. I suppose for the best, it'd been ugly.

Guyana look the stronger side. Darn mainlander apostates!
