Let me offer some wild speculation, and I stress that this is all completely unsubstantiated.
I don't think these are really DC fans. I think these are white supremacists who are using DC fans as cover.
Again, this is a wild guess on my part. Feel free to completely dismiss this as speculative nonsense, because, well, it is.
But white supremacists long ago figured out that they needed to obfuscate their identity and motives. That's why the conservatives worked so hard to get everyone to use the phrase "alt right" instead of "white supremacist" or "white nationalist." There are lots of DC fans who genuinely think that there is some kind of conspiracy between the critics and Disney to give DC movies lower critical ratings despite the "fact" that the DC movies are exactly as good as the Marvel movies. (Nerds are insane, I'm one of them.)
Wouldn't this provide rather ideal cover for white supremacists in something like this obvious 'bot attack?
If you begin with "Hey, this group on the Internet started a 'bot attack to drive down the user rating for this movie," then ask them about their motives, and you see the usual conspiracy theory being thrown around by many DC fans, this certainly sounds plausible.
But what if we start with "What do DC fans think about Black Panther?" It looks very different. In fact, it looks like this:

Most of it boils down to "Gosh, I hope Black Panther does well, because then maybe we will get a Static/Cyborg/Black Lightning movie!"
I think most of them understand that such an attack on the Black Panther movie could ultimately have negative consequences for superhero movies in general, while a genuinely good Black Panther movie would force Warner Brothers to step up their game and compete. It's the same reason I hope every DC movie is good, and am disappointed when they aren't.
This same group that went after Black Panther's low user ratings also claims responsibility for doing the same thing to Star Wars: the Last Jedi. Why these two movies? Why not Thor: Ragnarok to name one very recent example?
It seems plausible to me that perhaps a small group ofwhite supremacists alt right free speech advocates identitarians with basic script-kiddie skills are using disputes within nerd culture as cover to try and discourage Hollywood from making movies that don't have white and/or male protagonists.
