Democratic Socialist Scores Upset in New York Primary

Of course it can be hated. And some people do it.

It is not one thing.

What you think it is is not what I think it is.

I can hate your visions of it.

But I can't hate America.

It is not one thing. It is a bunch of individual beliefs.

I can only hate how some people envision it. And what some people want to do.

But religion is a set of ideas, and one should be able to oppose ideas.

Sure.

Mock silly Muslim ideas all day.

But stop short from condemning the victims of religion. It is a human mental disorder. A mental disease. A disease of the mind.

Leave people out of it.

BDS reminds me of this:

Hipster Nazis: Boycotting Jews before it was cool ...
This is my best interpretation of the black-letter font. I follow it with Google Translate.

Deutsche! Wehrt Euch!
Kauft nicht bei Jüden!

German! Defend yourselves!
Do not buy from Jews!

The question is if she understands foreign policy, history, and economics any more than Trump. For years Venezuela has been run by slogans shouting ideologues without a clue how to manage. Jerry Brown acknowledged that in his first turn at governor he surrounded himself with ideologues with no experience. This time it is the other way around.

I had the same view of Al Franken, a progressive who in open meetings acted like he was doing stand up.

Chavez bankrupted Venezuela buying popular support with unsustainable social programs.

As it is Ca relies on federal support for social programs.

Chavez tried to help millions that had been living in an apartheid state for decades.

He ran into a bunch of capitalists backed up by the US that didn't like that idea.

So the capitalists in Venezuela went to war with Chavez.

What do you mean by the bolded? If you are referring to California, note that they have the best economy in the country. Also note that every state gets federal money for social programs, including states like Kansas.

Also, a question: why is it whenever someone want to denigrate democratic socialism, Venezuela is always the go to argument? Why never point to the success of the scandinavian nations?

California has a good economy now.

When a Republican was governor the economy was very bad.

Her wiki page says that she is member of the antisemitic BDS movement. Nuff said!
Apparently there are quite a ew Israeli supporters of BDS. Are they antisemitic too?
BDS = Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions directed at Israel.

There is a difference between (1) opposing Israel's imperialism and apartheid and (2) hating Jews. A big difference.

Except the vast majority of the time it's obvious 1 is a cover for 2.

Chavez tried to help millions that had been living in an apartheid state for decades.

He ran into a bunch of capitalists backed up by the US that didn't like that idea.

So the capitalists in Venezuela went to war with Chavez.

The only war was Chavez vs those who tried to actually make things work. While there was support for those opposed to him there would be no reason for capitalists to wreck his economy as they would know it he would wreck it fine himself.

What evidence do you have for this claim? Yes, I mean EVIDENCE.

Loren Pechtel, I must ask you. What kind of nastiness by Israel toward the Palestinians will you NOT defend?

The way capitalists "made things work" in Venezuela for decades before Chavez was with an apartheid state based on racial prejudice.

Most of the time that claim is a cover for hating Palestinians.

Because Scandinavian countries do not practice  democratic socialism, but  social democracy. There is a very big difference between the two.
Wikipedia said:
Democratic socialism is a political philosophy that advocates political democracy alongside social ownership of the means of production[1] with an emphasis on self-management and democratic management of economic institutions within a market socialist, participatory or decentralized planned economy.[2] Democratic socialists hold that capitalism is inherently incompatible with what they hold to be the democratic values of liberty, equality and solidarity; and that these ideals can only be achieved through the realization of a socialist society. Democratic socialism can be supportive of either revolutionary or reformist politics as a means to establish socialism.[3]

Social democracy is a political, social and economic ideology that supports economic and social interventions to promote social justice within the framework of a liberal democratic polity and capitalist economy. The protocols and norms used to accomplish this involve a commitment to representative and participatory democracy; measures for income redistribution and regulation of the economy in the general interest; and welfare state provisions.[1][2][3] Social democracy thus aims to create the conditions for capitalism to lead to greater democratic, egalitarian and solidaristic outcomes.[4] Due to longstanding governance by Social Democratic parties and their influence on socioeconomic policy development in the Nordic countries, in policy circles "social democracy" has become associated with the Nordic model in the latter part of the 20th century.[5]

Your translation is correct. I think this is eerily similar to what BDS is doing at their protests:

Looks very much like the Nazi-era "Kauft nicht bei Juden" sandwich boards.

As far as I can see, the only thing you attacked in this thread is BDS. You'll have to explain how that is socialism.
It's not socialism itself, but contemporary socialists tend to also hate Israel. Not sure why, but it's the case.

It certainly is the case with these DSA creeps.

Sandwich boards tend to look very much alike, so your comparison is pretty silly.

They also have the highest spending on social programs. Without fed tax dollars given to in Ca they would be in trouble. Compred to the rest of the country Ca is a socialist country.

Pretty nifty trick considering CA pays more in federal taxes than it receives. Those socialists are tricksy.

I don't live in the US, and it took me 57 seconds to discover this argument is complete bullshit. Its ratio of Federal spending vs State revenue per capita is comparable to that of Texas. I've never heard of Republicans bemoaning about the failed socialist state of Texas
