Do Democrats Realize They Are The Party Of Racism?

You are clearly regurgitating partisan talking points. This is not a fact, this is a particular framing of a particular issue straight out of some far-right blog. Your feigned ignorance ("I have been doing a lot of research lately and I was shocked to find out that the Democrats are the party of racism") isn't convincing to me. You are either extremely ignorant and naive of American history, and consequently, are swallowing propaganda hook, line, and sinker, or you are dishonestly disseminating propaganda.

It is a well-known established fact that Republicans judge people by their character and ability, not skin color. The left sees race everywhere. They would rather a company hire an unqualified black man over a qualified white man just so they could fill their diversity quota. This is so disgustingly racist I can't even believe people buy into it. Republicans have no problem with black people getting the job, as long as they are the BEST QUALIFIED for it. If I go in for surgery and I find out my surgeon only got the job because of his skin color and not because of his ability, I'd be downright terrified for my life.

Good idea.

Those old names for the political parties don't really describe their modern constituents. They're as obsolete as Whig and Bull Moose. Let's change them.

Well, I guess that depends on what you mean by “Modern”.

Let’s not forget the Democrats had an ex-Klan Kleagle who liked to use the N-word 3rd in line for the Presidency in 2010.

Let's not forget my Republican representative in Congress tells stories about how his father used to hire wetbacks. Those old guys from the Greatest Generation used racist language and believed in racist tropes. That's not news.

It must be scary in your world.

"Historically" doesn't determine it. What was true in the past might not still be true.

There are likely racists in both parties. But who specifically?

Trump's a different issue from political parties because he's an individual person. You can tell if he's racist from his behavior. It's current-enough and he hasn't apologized.

HuffPo is a biased source regularly laughed at by the right. A lot of those are taken out of context in an attempt to smear the President. Trump wasn't the one who first brought up Obama's birth certificate. He just went along with it. Wouldn't every honest American? I want to make sure our Presidents are born in the United States and that no one is trying to pull a fast one over our eyes by trying to become President in an illegal way. How is that considered "racist?"

Because he didn't question the Republican candidate's eligibility even though McCain was born outside the US.

It's been reported that McCain's birth certificate says he was born in the hospital in Colón, Panama, although he claims he was born in the Zone. Either way, there was more substance to the question of whether McCain qualified for the designation 'natural born citizen' than whether Obama did. Trump trafficked in rumors about Obama and ignored facts about McCain.

Strange for someone claiming to only be raising questions out of concern for our Constitution.

I have been doing a lot of research lately and I was shocked to find out that the Democrats are the party of racism.

Your research is sorely lacking.

Since you brought up the 60s and the Civil Rights Act, let's take a look at that legislation.

It was proposed by JFK. A Democrat.

It was passed by a Democratically-controlled Congress with a clear majority of Democratic votes in both Houses of Congress. You are of course welcome to post the vote totals if you think otherwise.

It was signed into law by Johnson, a Democrat.

Were there Southern Democrats who opposed it? Yes, but they were in the minority.

Since you brought up Byrd (as everyone who tries to prove "Democrats are the real racists" always does), it is worth noting that he left the KKK, changed his views, and later in life became such an ardent supporter of civil rights that upon his death he was celebrated by the NAACP.

I can't even believe you actually believe that happens.

Martin Luther King believed that "people should be judged by their character, not their skin color." Clarence Thomas, a BLACK man on the Supreme Court, absolutely despises affirmative action and every thing that coddles blacks. The left is racist because they believe black people can't do it without handouts and leg-ups. The GOP believes blacks can do it on their own.

That's what diversity quotas do. If a school has too many white students, they pass over all the qualified whites in order to bring in "different races." This is truly racist. Jobs do this too. Even TV commercials do this as well. It's common to see a commercial with 5 races of people and see comments like "Obviously this company is just trying to show they are diverse."

"Let’s face it. Our ass is in a crack. We’re gonna have to let this n****r bill pass. —Lyndon Johnson to Sen. John Stennis, 1957

"These Negroes, they're getting pretty uppity these days and that's a problem for us since they've got something now they never had before, the political pull to back up their uppityness. Now we've got to do something about this, we've got to give them a little something, just enough to quiet them down, not enough to make a difference. For if we don't move at all, then their allies will line up against us and there'll be no way of stopping them, we'll lose the filibuster and there'll be no way of putting a brake on all sorts of wild legislation. It'll be Reconstruction all over again."

Said to Senator Richard Russell, Jr. (D-GA) regarding the Civil Rights Act of 1957. As quoted in Lyndon Johnson and the American Dream (1977), by Doris Kearns Goodwin, New York: New American Library, p. 155.

"Son, when I appoint a n****r to the court, I want everyone to know he's a n****r."

Said to an aide in 1965 regarding the appointment of Thurgood Marshall as associate justice of the Supreme Court. As quoted in Dallek, Robert (1991). Lone Star Rising: Lyndon Johnson and His Times, 1908-1960. Oxford, England: Oxford University Press. p. 519. ISBN 0195054350. Retrieved on 5 July 2014.

"I'll have them n*****s voting Democratic for two hundred years."

Allegedly said to two governors (whose names were not given) regarding the Civil Rights Act of 1964, according to then-Air Force One steward Robert MacMillan. As quoted in Inside the White House (1996), by Ronald Kessler, New York: Simon and Schuster, p. 33.

"As long as you are black, and you're gonna be black till the day you die, no one's gonna call you by your goddamn name! So no matter what you are called, n****r, you just let it roll off your back like water, and you’ll make it! Just pretend you're a goddamn piece of furniture!

Said to his chauffeur, Robert Parker, when Parker said he’d prefer to be referred to by his name rather than "boy," "n****r" or "chief." As quoted in Parker, Robert; Rashke, Richard L. (1989). Capitol Hill in Black and White. United States: Penguin Group. p. v. ISBN 0515101893. Retrieved on 6 January 2015.

Hey guys, how come this stuff isn't in the textbooks for our children to see?

Quotas were declared unconstitutional decades ago, probably before you were born.

I think you should continue your research. There's a lot you don't know about the political parties, Affirmative Action, and Donald Trump.

Get back to me with those vote totals, okay? And while you're at it, check out how many Southern Republicans voted in favor. (Hint: It rhymes with "Nero").

Many well-respected black men have spoken out against affirmative action. Who would know better than the blacks? Certainly not a racist on the left.

The total votes show that an overall higher percentage of Republicans voted in favor of the civil rights act than the Democrats did. This is because the GOP is the party of life, equality, and liberty. Like I said, Obama was supposed to fix all the problems of blacks and he laid a turd. Blacks were rioting more when Obama was President. Why? All the cities run by the left are turning into crap.

Next question?

As I alluded to in my earlier post this was the signal for the racist southern Democrats like Strum Thurmond to leave the Democratic party. And which party adopted him with open arms? Oh yeah...

Did you read all those LBJ quotes on page 3 that I posted? He was a frightening rabid racist of a man and he still gave in to passing it out of societal pressure. So yes, a Democrat signing it while screaming "n****r!" is good for Democrats, I guess?

I must have missed the post where you showed that the majority of Democrats voted against the Civil Rights Act. Can you post it again?

Thanks.

Yeah, the left always mentions Strum. That's one man. One man is not a Southern strategy. David Duke was welcome with open arms by the Democrats, too.

It would be nice if you mentioned them by name, thereby giving credit where it's due and showing us you actually did your own research.

Oh, and try to include a few women, too. Men aren't the final authority on social issues.

It's like you refuse to acknowledge facts. The Democrats turned their backs on the racist branch of their party and the Republicans picked up their leftovers. Which party screams "States Rights!" these days? Eh?
