Editor of Major German Newspaper Says He Planted Stories for the CIA

He wrote an entire book.
His book is apparently not reveal anything specific either, based on the reviews I've read.

He reprints parts of some of the articles he wrote and explains where he got the information.

The articles are generally smear pieces revealing things like Qaddafi was trying to manufacture chemical weapons.

He got the information from German intelligence. His claim is that German intelligence is in many ways, not all ways, just an arm of US intelligence, a claim not that hard to believe.

I'm skeptical of US apologists.

Their agenda is to support a bunch of psychotic apes, wearing ties, that are rapidly making the planet less and less habitable.

For their moment in the sun they are willing to destroy anything.

Good Heavens! Do you meant that all these years that I've been debating you that you've been secretly skeptical of the US and it's actions??!!!

I hid it well.

Why do you hate America? It's because you're jealous of us, isn't it? What's so great about communism? Freedom isn't free! Benghazi! Obama is an Islamo-socialist dictator! :cheeky:

Where is the skepticism in a supposedly rational thought board?

-How did the CIA communicate with him and send him the articles? It wouldn't be hard to document the communications from the CIA and release them to major media outlets and the public to investigate.

-Which articles and which publications were they printed in?

-Did his bosses not fact check these alleged articles?

-Did no one in the public or other competing media outlets realize the facts in the articles were bullshit and reveal this information?

-That the article and the book in question already has confirmed incorrect facts contained within it should immediately release alarm bells about the credibility of the other alleged facts it contains.

That the typical Putin apologists and anti-US crowd on this board are lapping this up as worthy of taking seriously reveals to me how such lies can easily spread. The public is far too gullible, even among supposed intelligent and rational people, so long as it confirms their bias.

Have you read the book?

These things are in it.

He is just one small journalist.

He explains how they get you to do it.

One person refused, he was fired. The German courts upheld the firing because if a person refused work with the intelligence agencies then obviously they couldn't be trusted and deserved to be fired.

So, let me get this straight...

Journalist reveals that he has been sacrificing journalistic integrity throughout his journalistic career for the sake of profit (keeping his job at a major newspaper), and we are now to take his journalistic integrity as a given since he has written a book for profit detailing his lack of journalistic integrity.

Color me unimpressed.

My problem with this is that these claims are in a book. Big stories shouldn't wait to be found in a book. If it is journalism, it should be in a newspaper, but then the pay isn't as good.

Keeping your job is doing something for survival and the well being of your family, not profit.

Not if he could resign from his job at the first sign of undue influence, and take a job at smaller newspaper which values journalistic integrity and also values well known journalists with integrity. In fact, breaking such a story might be exactly what that smaller newspaper needs to get a nice bump in circulation, practically guaranteeing the survival of the journalist with integrity.

a Dr. with bad ethics is way down that slippery slope. I agree compromising integrity for personal gain, survival should not be tolerated. Ask Brain Williams' social bon vivant effects on Brian Williams trusted news castor.

A quick review of that website and their other latest news headlines suggests they have unearthed all manner of secret conspiracies the other newspapers just won't touch.

Vaccine frauds, global warming data tricks, Joe Biden's plot to bring down Venezuela...

They have the inside story on all of it.

Or even just leak it to them--if one attempt to plant a story gets leaked they're not likely to try anything similar again.

Like they didn't try to assassinate Castro multiple times? Even if it were leaked they would have a legion of defenders as this thread has shown crying conspiracy theory and ad homing the source of the leak. They don't need to fear leaks.

Yes, the CIA is known to assassinate journalists. And because they tried to assassinate Castro, and you are revealing their tactics, they are going to try to assassinate YOU next! Better watch your back!

What if some wacky website mentions you dismal? does that make you automatically wrong?

If a website mentions me no. If a website mentions I am an alien sent from another galaxy to destabilize the North Korean currency however, the odds go up the website is wrong.

Easy to say.

Changing jobs involves trauma. The loss of friends, many times the loss of a house and desired place to live.

On one hand you have a major upheaval to your life. On the other is lying about a story given to you by a very nice person working for the government. It's over in a day.

Easy to say that major upheaval is what people faced with this should do.

It is major upheaval either way, one way is compromising your ethics, and the ethics of your profession, which will follow you for the rest of your life. The other is a temporary inconvenience that can be turned into a positive by blowing the whistle on the ethical violation you have been asked to perform. I know which one I would take. I also know that I am not going to trust a journalist who is willing to compromise their professional ethics and integrity for the sake of their job.

I can certainly feel for the guy if he truly was faced with such a dilemma, but there is no way I am going to trust him to be telling the truth now when he just revealed that he has been lying throughout his professional career. He was either lying for years, or he is lying now, either way he is a liar, and not to be trusted when he claims to be telling the truth. Not without substantial supporting evidence that proves his truthfulness.
