Fantastic Four movie

RT is down to 10%.

"Fantastic Four is Catwoman-level awful."

"I have nothing good to say about "Fantastic Four" --- so let's just leave it at that."

"I wonder if it escaped from the 20th Century Fox lot as a tax write-off."

"Oh, well - they can always reboot."

Fantastic Four franchise (Franchisetic Four?) is odd that it doesn't have a single good movie, yet they keep making new ones that suck just as bad. They've now got a 4 movie streak, can they go for five?

it's not odd, it's just what i said on page 1: a stipulation of the agreement that allows FOX to retain exclusive rights to the FF franchise is that they have to actually do something with it - ie, they MUST make a movie every few years, or else the agreement defaults and FOX loses the rights to the franchise.
the reason these movies have all been terrible is basically that FOX owns the rights to the FF franchise, but doesn't know (or care) how to make a profitable and well received FF movie... but they don't want Marvel to get the rights back, so they have to shit out SOMETHING once or twice a decade in order to retain them.

instead of calling it Fant4astic, they could have just called this "fuck you, Marvel"

AFAIK, this is only the 3rd Fantastic Four movie.

it's 4 if you count the roger corman version from '94, which was the first time they started dicking off with this "make something resembling a movie so we can keep the rights" crap.

Wikipedia says it was never released.

But wow! A Roger Corman Fantastic Four movie, that has got to be unintentional comedy gold. I would do just about anything to get my hands on that one, and then I would promptly send a copy to the guys at Rifftrax for a proper treatment.

correct, it was never officially released - it was never meant to be, in fact.

it's all over the place - you can download copies all over, and there is a digitally remastered DVD of it floating around as well.

First one with Evans and Alba and Gruffud was good. Made a nice chunk of change too. 2nd was OK, and still made good money.

Yeah, I get that. But you'd think that they'd eventually make a passable movie... the logic of keeping the rights to the franchise doesn't really fly, if all they do with it is yet another flop when the deadline looms, instead of ever making any money with it. You gotta admit, four movies is a pretty bad streak fo awful movies even in Hollywood terms.

I'm counting the one from 1994 also.

I watched the previous versions and wasn't super-keen on them. So I think I can happily miss them. Just waiting for a particular movie in December with spaceships and blasters.

I agree with the earlier post that the first FF flick this century was pleasantly good.

How much involvement does Marvel have in this version?

There are few reviews up yet, and that worries me. Sounds like it's going to be another dud.

At work a couple of days ago my bcoworkers said that the corporate executives made numerous changes to the movie behind the directors back. I also heard and read that the movie sucked.
