FCC's latest gift to telcos could result in worse Internet access for some

Just like every other Trump appointee, Pai has proven himself to be the worst possible pick for the job. He seems fixated on removing every possible consumer protection, and definitely anything enacted during the Obama administration. Meanwhile, the evidence is building that Trump and Pai have been making back room deals with Sinclair Broadcasting. Pai is making it apparent that he is a Trump loyalist, likely because he is just as compromised by corruption as his dear leader. His only hope of getting out of this thing intact is to keep sucking up to Trump in the increasingly unlikely case that Trump and his cronies will not all go to prison for their corruption. Unfortunately for Pai, I think his best prospects long term are being remembered as "disgraced former FCC Chairman Pai" by most honest people, and a future as a "technical expert" on conservative news programming.

This administration is going to do a lot of damage to the public while benefiting the elites. The Republican voters will be pleased.

I don't know.

Especially in rural areas, where carriers don't make as much money, they might just decide not to provide either a wireline or fixed wireless connection to replace the copper. That could leave residents scrambling to find a better replacement for copper-based service. DSL Internet access over copper lines is, unfortunately, the best available service in some parts of the country.
Isn't this largely going to affect Trump Country?

And I know there are third parties that scout prime tower locations in rural areas, tricking landowners into signing contracts, tying up these prime locations. So, even if a telco does want to provide a replacement service, they get strong-armed by these third parties which may make it even more cost prohibitive.

Look, companies can't be expected to deal with providing a quality service when there are regulations strangling them requiring them to provide a quality service.
