Advocates say the fastest way to help immigrants separated from their children: Post their bail

Immigration advocates have noted one sure-fire way to help people separated from their children: Posting their bail. This is one of the fastest ways to reunite immigrants with their family, said Pilar Weiss, project director at the National Bail Fund Network said.

Donating to community bond funds can immediately “lead to freedom,” she said. Community bond funds are charities, like Raices, that use funds to post bail and provide legal defense for detained people.

Bail can cost anywhere from $1,500 to $80,500

If I had any money, I would do this. I hope more people who can, step up and help. Most of all, I hope we soon rid ourselves of the cruel authoritarian disease that has hold of our country.

So long as you act as a surety that they'll appear for their hearing, sure.

Fairly safe bet.

Recent data shows that asylum seekers continue to appear for immigration court proceedings at high rates. In fiscal year 2018, Department of Justice (DOJ) figures show that 89 percent of all asylum applicants attended their final court hearing to receive a decision on their application. When families and unaccompanied children have access to legal representation, the rate of compliance with immigration court obligations is nearly 98 percent.

It'd be after their asylum application was rejected, they'd become a flight risk.

Hmm, I wonder if these numbers would change any if the person paying the bail was some total stranger as opposed to a family member.

Only one way to find out I guess.

I don’t get it. Why would the families be reunited? You couldn’t in good conscious release a child separated for protection back in the hands of the irresponsible people purporting to be parents.

Are you even human? You can't just kidnap someone's children because you think they're raising them wrong.

Of course it’s impermissible to kidnap. That’s illegal and wrong.

Then reuniting families should not be controversial. Your moral judgment of a parent has nothing to do with their right to raise their children.
