French Migrant Camp Fire 4.10.2017

The French version of Wikipedia has an article about the camp here.

Roughly translated it says (in part):

Basroch "Jungle" (2005-2016)

Since the early 2000s migrants have been trying to move to England via Dunkirk. They are sheltered in makeshift camps, notably in the community of Grande-Synthe.

In 2005, an informal encampment was established in the Basroch district of Grande-Synthe, near the highway via which attempts were made to cross [to] Britain. The camp comprised mainly Kurdish people from Iraq, as well as other nationalities (Iranians, Syrians ...). In the context of worsening conflicts in the Middle East and a significant increase in the number of refugees in Europe, the population of this camp grew from 80 in the spring of 2015 to almost 3,000 in the winter of 2015. The camp had many families, including young children and pregnant women. Located on a floodplain, the camp was particularly muddy and unhealthy. The aid was provided exclusively by the voluntary sector. The CNCDH [French National Commission for Human Rights] released the following statement on 7 June 2016:

"In January 2016, nearly 3,000 people lived in utterly vile conditions on the grounds of Basroch, under appalling conditions, under dangerous and unhealthy makeshift shelters (tarps, tents and precarious huts), in a state of distress and total destitutionl. Assistance to migrants was exclusively provided by the voluntary sector (Secours Catholique, Médecins sans Frontières, Salam, Land of Wandering, Emmaus, etc.) and by many British volunteers, known as "gérer la pénurie" ["shortages administrators"] who worked under extremely harsh physical conditions."

The Basroch camp was demolished following the transfer of the inhabitants to the La Linière humanitarian camp in March 2016. An eco-neighborhood will be built on the site.

Humanitarian Camp of Linière (March 2016)

With the arrival of winter, the mayor of the municipality, Damien Carême, ordered the creation of a humanitarian camp to shelter these people. He asked the NGO, Médecins Sans Frontières, which agreed to build a humanitarian camp on land belonging to the community, known as "La Linière".

This camp is located 1.5 km [approximately a mile] (50 ° 59 '46 "N, 2 ° 17' 11" E) from the former jungle; It consists of wooden huts of 8 to 10 m2, each intended to house 4 people.

The camp was built at a cost of 3.5 million euros, the majority of which was financed by the NGO Médecins sans Frontières (2.6 million euros), the remainder being contributed by the city of Grande-Synthe and the community of Dunkirk (900,000 euros). The daily management was initially provided by these associations, coordinated by Utopia567, an association composed solely of volunteers.

It is equipped with sanitary facilities, collective kitchens, and social spaces. Medical care is provided by Médecins du Monde, Médecins Sans Frontières, Gynécologues sans Frontières and the Red Cross. The children are educated in the community of Grande-Synthe.

Since June 2016, operating costs have been borne by the State, through the AFEJI, an anti-discrimination service.

In the autumn of 2016, the camp at La Linière housed approximately 1300 people. The Mayor and the State have expressed their wish for a gradual closure, which has provoked the indignation of associations and NGOs.

During the night of April 10, 2017 to April 11, 2017, an ethnic brawl broke out in the camp and caused a gigantic fire that devastated half of the camps wooden chalets

I'm sure France is the same. There are now tens of thousands of people in London who can't find housing. One family looking for property said they all live in one room (5 people). 2 or even 3 families are sharing an apartment.

The UK invited migrants but failed to build affordable housing to accommodate.

We need to set up homes for migrants in the Middle East for Middle Easterners as its cheaper. Or we need to build 250,000 houses per year (in fact more) just to keep up.
Added to this many foreign people are investing in buying up property in London.

What's this got to do with the fire in Calais?? Not a lot I think this turned out to be a derail.

France should (and with Brexit soon will) stop doing the tories' work for them and holding up would-be immigrants. It is a British problem, and time the tories faced it.

How aout instead they get deported back? If you stab people and put shit on fire you have forfeited any consideration for being a "refugee" or "asylum seeker". Europe can't afford the continued mass migration of these violent Islamists.

Does this mean we can send all the whites back to Europe because there was a stabbing by a white person in America?

That's weird. Why'd he stab the guy? Was he, like, the one person in America who couldn't get himself a gun?

Why are immigrants who landed in France an immigration problem for the UK?

Find out his ancestry and then deport others who are the same ancestry. :)

No. Why are you so hung up on race? I am not saying deport anyone who looks like them (and many Syrians look white btw).

These are migrants that the French have not invited in. They are not citizens, and far from it. If they commit crimes, they should get deported to their home countries immediately.

I don't know any refugees who have done any such things - mostly those who do are people born in the country and made furious by bullying clowns like your goodself.

They don't want to be in France, they want to be in the UK. The French should get smugglers to take them where they want to be. Why don't you go back to wherever your ancestors came from? Won't take you, I suppose.

We're overcrowded in the UK. Try looking at any council in London itself. In Ealing residents have to live there for five (5) years before going on a council list.
If our useless government built 250,000 houses a year over what it does then there would be lots of room.

Don't be surprised to meet a London family of 5 living in one room.

The French built a camp for them thereby it accepted them. It should rebuild/repair.

Anyway I don't think it would be a good idea to send those involved in or who started the fight to the UK. This is France's problem.

Not if France just let's them move through France to their final destination. Which may happen upon Brexit. Apparently the current arrrangenet isan agreement between the France and the UK signed while both were in the EU. It is possible that France would withdraw from the agreement upon Brexit.

So Britain is obliged to import hatred into its borders so extremists and those who followed them can continue to fight each other in the UK and worse. The UK is short enough on housing and doesn't need any to be burnt down.

If France wants to get rid of some of those refugees and Britain doesn't want them, why not send them to the USA?

France can also

LOL.

The refugees aren't inanimate bargaining chips.

They want to go to the UK.

Right now, that's being largely prevented by the French authorities, who are blocking the refugees because they have agreed to do so. In the absence of such an agreement, the French can wash their hands of the problem by simply turning a blind eye when refugees sneak onto cross-channel traffic. Then it becomes a problem for the UK alone.

Post-Brexit, the French have no reason to continue to block the refugees from crossing the channel, and every motive to stop blocking this movement, thereby making the refugees someone else's problem. They don't have to SEND the refugees anywhere; if they stop spending time, money and effort on the issue, it will resolve itself (as far as the French are concerned).

If France wants to get rid of the refugees, then that can achieve that by simply not preventing them from leaving.

Britain does not generally refuse refugees or asylum seeker applications but is not obligated to take in those who caused the damage from a fire in a camp built for such persons.

Actually, it is; But it really doesn't matter what Britain's obligations are or are not - the refugees will come anyway, as soon as the French stop preventing them from doing so.

It depends on whether the British government gets serious on its security of borders or not, Certainly it should ban those who committed criminal acts in France.

It really doesn't. The refugees will come; The most the British can do is to arrest them at the border, and place them in a secure facility until they either are allowed entry to the country, or can be deported - the latter being dependent on determining with certainty their nationality and identity, which may be impossible without their cooperation.

A ban is valueless if it cannot be enforced.

The primary means for getting to UK for these refugees is to hassle trucks to make them stop, while others break into the trailer. Some have also tried to walk through the tunnel on their own I think but with less luck. If France were to stop enforcing anything, the canal tunnel would be full of pedestrians and the trucks carrying cargo would slow down to a crawl. Not to mention that if UK wanted to stop the incoming flood of people they'd have to set up their own checkpoint on the other side, further slowing down all traffic.

France needs break up the camps, and intern their residents until they either seek asylum officially from France, or choose to return to their home countries.
