Gas almost $7 a gallon

Americans griping about gas prices is ridiculous.

Americans also drive more miles on average. A combination of a large, spread out country and underdeveloped transit and regional rail.

I wonder why Icelanders are driving so much.
Iceland has zero km (that's aproximately zero miles, for those watching in Black and White) of railways.

Sure, but it's also a very tiny country, only aproximately[sic] 300 miles (~500 km) across, and most of the population is concentrated in and around Reykjavik.
So I am surprised they even have places to go to rack up so many driving miles per capita.
