Georgetown Law professor is fired after saying black students are bottom of her class almost every semester

From LD's link:
Sandra Sellers complained, “I hate to say this—I end up having this angst every semester that a lot of my lower ones are Blacks. Happens almost every semester. And it’s like, oh, come on. It’s some really good ones, but there are also usually some that are just plain at the bottom. It drives me crazy.”

...
...

This was not the first complaint about such racist comments from this professor and others.”

Emphasis added.

Emphasis might have been added, but was evidence offered by this first year student?

I expect the offense archaeologists to comb Seller's social media and other history for "racist comments". I'd be interested to see what they come up with.

Let's not jump to conclusions.

Was the instructor complaining, or just mentioning a true observation?
If complaining, was the complaint against the race, against the discrepancy, against the system that led to the discrepancy, against her own teaching competence, or against racism in general?

Are we simply assuming the instructor believes the lower marks were the result of racial inferiority?

She is first and foremost a professor, in this context. That is who she is expected to be. A professor at a university has an obligation to not accept those observations as worthy of mention. They serve no purpose but to reinforce "biases against", because the shape of that statement is very much a "bias against". It is a liability as an institution to allow the appearance of a failure of ethics because, and I don't understand why any conservative business minded person wouldn't understand using business ethics for the business of education, which people are trying to privatize anyway, is that the appearance of a failure in ethics IS a failure of business ethics.
Huh?

A LOL moment;

Georgetown Law has fired one white professor and placed another on administrative leave after a video of their discussion about a black student was condemned on social media. Dean Bill Treanor anounced on Thursday that the school had ended its relationship with Professor Sandra Sellers, 62, after the video showed her complaining on Zoom that black students were predominantly at the bottom of her class.

DailyMail

Hm... Daily Mail. Do we have a credible source? It's a bit too juicy for me to swallow it whole.

The Slate's defense, looks like typical leftist knee jerk defence.

Neither of these sources bring me much comfort. I don't think anybody in this thread has enough information to pick sides.

Huh?

She is first and foremost a professor:
She has an obligation to first do her job and not do things contrary to her job, in the context of her employment. Of course she can and did do differently. The expected result is what she got: she lost that job.

Pointing out racial trends and identifying them racially is the core kernel process of racism. By identifying the trends verbally, we tacitly accept that the trend identified has use, purpose, and is contextually applicable. It does not; instructors are obligated to foremost treat every individual as an individual based on their own merits without respect to the performance of people who are not the subject.

Finally, if education is to be accepted as a business on some level, we must accept that business ethics is in play. And in business ethics the appearance of impropriety IS impropriety.

You are one of the good ones, Zoidberg.

This is a crucial observation. None of us here know enough about the context to know what really happened.

The context might be "Professor gets fired for voicing a politically incorrect truth." It might be "University finally axes professor who has been complaining bitterly for years about school affirmative action policies. She hates having a bunch of dumb black kids in her class." Might be something else entirely.

Anything is quite possible.

First four posts all ignored. Must be an alt-right spank fest.

Our Ignore lists must be very similar. Yours was the first post I saw.

And just because someone is aware some group trends exist makes it no less racist to fucking bang on about it. If anyone wants any modicum of respect from me, or for that matter anyone who tries to be better than they were yesterday, you still have to treat every person you meet as an individual, without respect to what other people who are not them have done.

Yes. Some group trends do exist; and they are often uncomfortable to talk about honestly. But there are plenty of blacks much smarter than most whites, and plenty of blacks more compassionate than most whites. I'm happy to leave a few of the "most whites" on Ignore. I have zero urge to click and learn what their "contribution" is. Probably the moral equivalent of

"Nanner nanner nanner. Some blacks are even stupider than me! Therefore you should all be voting for Republioturds!! MAGA."

Not once have you been able to point out in any of the Daily Mail articles I link to that the DM has been wrong or lied. Not once, ever.

At the core, a professor has been fired for "reprehensible comments". This incident has been reported in many other places.

I have no idea which or how many Daily Mail articles you've linked to.
But I've followed enough, and then googled other versions of the story, to put Daily Mail into the "mostly tabloid" category.

There is a video posted in the article. There is no need to discuss Daily Mail credibility.

I don't understand why the video was publicly posted in the first place. Looks like a private conversation not intended to even be recorded, let alone posted.

Another victim of Covid19-Zoom if you ask me, at least she was not naked.

The Slate was a report, not a defense of anything.

But we do agree that there is NOT enough information at this point to make a rational informed judgement.

Is this exactly what you meant to post?

If people have something against Daily Mail (like I do), here is the Washington Post.

Here also is a quick read...a statement by Georgetown's Black Law Student Association.

Here is something that I think people are not getting. I know I didn't. News sources only cover so much and scholastic issues often have gaps in public information.

Academic institutions have privacy of students and professors, perhaps to a lesser extent. There are laws about privacy that have to be followed. In the longer video, there is a student named. The video was left up for two weeks. That is a major fuck up. It turns out the student is not only Black and that the whole context of her "statistics" about Black people was bordered by discussion of this individual, but he's the only Black person in her class.
