I think one could argue that the US should step up and try to help these countries form stable democracies.
There are many lessons to be learned here. One is corporations getting military aid to do business in other countries.

I still think the US has a moral obligation to help fix what we broke! Hell, it may be cheaper than the cost of Immagration control.

I do rember much GOP grunting about not getting involved with nation building. Of course the GOP has always been pro dirty war. In Chile, El Salvado, Nicoragua, Argenyina, Iraq. But build nations? Never! Now we are learning a lesson, long standing problems near our borders sonn become our problems. A lesson ourvGOP friends never understood. Do not understand. And never will understand.

Haiti from recent reports is slipping into vigilantism for lack of civil order. Gang members s are being hunted down and hung by people tired of crime.

You can argue it stems from European and American intervention and colonialism to a point. Beyond that people have to figure things out for themselves and work towards a stable system.

Columbia and Venezuela. Argentina, Peru. Plenty of brain power and resources, yet never seem to obtain long term stability. The Mexican narco state.

In Africa yet another military coup in Gabon. Unrest in Niger and Nigeria.

Exactly what to we do in Central/South Amerca? Do we beome a welfare state for the continent?

Do we beome a welfare state for the continent?
Nah, we continue to bulldoze rainforest to make room to grow Mickey D’s patties. Use their “excess” humanity to maintain our standard of living. As long as they don’t kill off too many of each other causing a labor shortage , it’s all good.

Dodging the quetion?

Plenty of aid has gone south.

What are countries south of the birder doing to help each other? Or are political and ethnic rivalries getting in the way.

Here is some of the “aid” that has gone south (I expect this is an incomplete list).

What financial and other material aid the U.S. sends is entirely in our own perceived self-interest, not in the interest of the people who live there.

No, that’s a direct answer. We are not a welfare state for SA. We are parasitic, gluttonously consuming the natural resources of third world countries that lack the wherewithal to develop them for themselves.

Obviously not “plenty” for the vast majority of their populations.

It is not in ‘Murka’s interest to see those countries help each other. If they were to show one shred of unity they would rightfully turn on US interests and kick them out.
