• Welcome to the Internet Infidels Discussion Board.

Gov Scott Walker wishes you a Happy Chanukkah, and 'Molotov!'

I suggest any present received from Governor Scotty be opened veeerrryy carefully.

Oh Tannen-bomb!!!

Jews usually don't vote republican so he has nothing to worry about.

Actually, many of the Neo-Conservatives say the term "Neo-Conservative" is anti-Semetic code for "Jew". So yes, there is a significant number of Jewish Republicans.

As for that Scott Walker, how stupid of him to try to reach out and mess it up. How dare he try and fail. How dare he try.

An odd point, coming from you.
You spend a lot of time pointing out when people misapply the 'libertarian' label, or misattribute libertarian policies. You seem to think that everyone who's not a libertarian should do their homework and be accurate, or STFU.

Is it completely wrong to expect someone trying to 'reach out' to demonstrate at least enough respect for the target demographic to make sure he's using unfamiliar words correctly?

He shouldn't have to "try" to reach out.

Right, we should expect more from someone who rises to governor of one of the 57 states.

Because this is a stupid reason to attack him. We could stay here months comparing notes on stupid things members of various parties had said. We could take a week just on Rush Limbaugh and Al Sharpton. He's trying to reach out, and he got slammed for it.

Or is it threatening to people in this thread if a Republican actually tries to reach out to minority groups? That is a very interesting question which suddenly makes this thread an interesting and relevant topic of discussion.

I think the obvious point is that anyone who makes such little effort is not sincerely "reaching out".

It would be interesting if he were actually reaching out. But to put out on paper such obvious lack of understanding and glaring statement substituting for mazel tov (blessing) a word about violent weapons used against jewish homes in Nazi Germany (molotov) in the '30s only brings to mind a another republican public misstep by another midwesterner who confidently corrected a students' correct spelling of potato. This wasn't reaching out this a brazen attempt to posture that failed because the party knew and cared nothing about jewish culture.

I think most will agree I'm going far less over the top than you here.

I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt and saying some staffer auto corrected mazel tov to Malotov. Still funny though.

Even if these morons wanted to say Mazel tov, it still shows their ignorance.

It was probably the only Hebrew phrase they knew, but it is used to congratulate a person on a significant occasion, like a wedding or a birthday.

Is the significant occasion Scott Walker's blessing?

I think "potatoe" was a much bigger gaffe. As is the claim by, for example, Sheila Jackson Lee that the constitution is 400 years old or her question of whether the Mars rover would be able to photograph Neil Armstrong's flag.
Stupid statements by politicians are a dime a dozen.

Eight days of Molotov can ruin any good mood.
Depending on whether you are giving or receiving. They say it's better to give than to receive. With Molotovs that is certainly true.

Seems a bit creepy and obsessive for these news outlets to be combing through years old letters for mistakes. This letter was written before he became governor, which would've been over 4 years ago at a minimum. Must be a slow news day.

The man seems like he might run for president.

Let's not blame liberals or Democrats for what may be the work of Republicans.
