Great news! Over 20 dead in Orlando Night Club!

Great! So a US born citizen has the name Omar and his parents are from Afghanistan - that means this discussion will devolve into a rant about "them moooslim terrorists" while the lives lost in the nightclub will be ignored, the numbers of guns this man had access to will be ignored, the white shooter who murdered the singer will be ignored. snip
.
Hi Ravensky
How is the number of guns this man had access to, relevant ?
France and Belgium have extremely strict gunlaws. That did not stop terrorist to find guns and explosives with the result we all know.
So how come you find it relevant how this man (be it muslim or not we do not yet know, so better wait) had access to guns ?
Salaam

PS I believe its spelled muslim not mooslim

To address the last, first - I know how it is spelled. I am mocking the speech patterns and spelling of those who get their hair on fire anytime anyone with dark skin and/or a "funny" name is the topic - hence the quotations.

The number and types of guns and ammunition matters because it happens with alarming frequency in this country, and we do absolutely nothing about it. As long as guns exist, there will never be a 100% fool-proof means of preventing tragedies like this, but the lack of political will to even try (as other countries do try) is appalling

So is this finally going to challenge Left's infatuation with Islam? Or do Muslims still rank higher than gays on the "progressive stack"?

I believe Muslims will always be at the top of the progressive stack. Its only a matter of time before an SJW in authority tells the LGBT community that they should always keep an arms distance from Muslims and not "dress gay", as we don't want to provoke them.

I suspected you were mocking but I couldn’t imagine you would lower yourself to the level of people you were referring to.

As for the weapons : my point is that Europe has the strictest gunlaws you can imagine. You end up fined or arrested with even a slingshot.

Still with increasing frequency, terrorists have access to assault riffles. All over Europe with maybe exception for insular UK.

A decade ago, all guns from law abiding citizens were confiscated. People had to turn in museum pieces or family guns. With these weapons there had not been any major incident since WW2 (which was the previous confiscation by German Occupier)
Now : every halfwit frustrated muslim seems to have an AK at home while peoples slingshots have been seized.

So, let me rephrase my question : do you believe that the shooter would not have been able to act if there had been stricter gun laws ?
To be clear : I am not talking about the hormone driven frustrated teenager who gets his hands on an assault riffle but on this specific case of terrorism. (if terrorism it is because we dont know yet)

As much as I am for gun control, this case is not about gun control. Determined terrorist will find a way to kill a lot of people regardless of gun control.

This seems to be a lone wolf type of shooting, not a conspiracy like the concert shootings in Paris. This is an American specialty that is related to the easy access to weapons here. It should be obvious that the easier it is to buy weapons specifically designed to kill people the more mass killings like this you are going to have.

Interestingly you don't ask if this going to challenge the Right's infatuation with assault type weaponry? You really are not fooling anyone.

And do you believe a lone wolf is too stupid to find or make explosives ?
And no it certainly is not obvious to me that mass killings are related to the ease of procuring weapons.
Some countries in europe had till recently extreme liberal laws and never a mass shooting. In Switserland citizens are armed and mass shootings are very rare

So you accept the logic that if we can't stop all of the shootings that there is no reason to try to stop most of the shootings?

Rare in Canada with few hand guns. But thanks for suggesting that the US becomes even more armed, because apparently we don't have enough guns to deal with all the bad guys that have guns.

Why would I accept this logic?
I am just saying this particular case is not about gun control.

50 dead, looks like a lone wolf terrorist.

And they say one man can't make a difference. Of course, gays will continue being gay and all this really changed was ending the lives of 50 people who the shooter's god apparently fucked up in designing them.

This is intolerable and won't change a thing in the US.

Strange logic Jimmy and even stranger you believe I advocate more arms in the US.
I seem unable to express myself. Must be my poor English, no doubt.

Oh and did Omar use a handgun ?
We are so cut from mainstream media here.

So you don't believe that we have more lone wolf shootings because of the easy access to weapons in the US. What do you attribute it to? Are Americans crazier than the people in Switzerland? Why are Americans so obsessed with guns?

These are not meant to be rhetorical questions, I want to know why you think that 5% of the world's population have so many of these shootings, certainly the majority of them. It is certainly a complex answer, more so that the simplistic one of easy access to weapons.

But I don't see the connection to why we should make it easy for Americans to obtain these weapons and why we should allow people to carry them everywhere. Whatever it is in the American psyche that makes us more prone to these shootings would seem to me to argue for us to be more restrictive to the easy access to powerful weapons and ammunition. Are you saying that since we can't be perfect in preventing all of these shootings we shouldn't be trying to prevent most of them? Is this the price of freedom?
